Superbee engine finished WIP update
Posted by the doog on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 4:43 PM

Hi guys, well, in between rehearsals for the upcoming tour, I've been relaxing at night by working slowly on the ol' Bee; I finally have the engine done. The distributor is from "Tom's Model Car Garage", and the rest of the doodads and lines are scratchbuilt, like that canister (?) on the side there under the air cleaner.

Some of the  lines are hose from Detail Master; other is wire. I painted on th eminiature lettering on the black hoses, and the other two unsecured hoses will go into the engine wall when I put it together. There will also be additional detailing done in the actual engine bay when I get it together.

The body is tucked away, curing, and I won't get to it until probably when I get back from Europe in mid July, but here's wherre I am so far.

I;m now working on the body for the Johnny RUtherford McLaren Indy car as well; I'll get some paint on that before I go and let it sit....it was the forst model I can ever remember my Dad building for me, but it's long gone. It's cool to build it again--the "full circle" thing, ya know? Wink [;)]

Comments welcomed! Help appreciated, and knowledge welcomed, cuz when it comes to cars, I have next to none! Whistling [:-^]......Laugh [(-D]

I take it from what I've read that you came over from the dark side( Military) I can see where your talent has paid off. The engine looks real nice.

I really like the weathering effect you've done on the engine

Thanks, Nicholma and cruz! All it is is a simple oil wash of White with a touch of Burnt Umber to make it look dirty/dusty. I'm not into that "Show car" pristine look. If I owned a muscle car, I'd drive it! (and be broke for the fuel costs! LOL!)

Hey doog;

The exhaust manifold looks so authentic! Might you enlighten us??

I've been pondering how to get that look.........

Sure! All it was was Tamiya Aluminum + Black, + little bit of Red Brown stippled on while the paint was still wet. Paint the Aluminun/Black first--just stipple it together onto the parts, and then, add a little bit of red brown to your still-wet brush and stipple it on lightly.

Alternately, you can use some rust/brown coored pastels to stipple on while the paint is stilll wet.
