Need help with a technique

Paint the control surfaces with a heavy coat. While the paint is still wet, lay down the fine wire in the paint. After the wires are placed to your satisfaction, and the paint is dry, apply a second coat over the whole shebang. Should come out looking ok.

You are talking about the control surfaces ,are you not ? Well just go to the LHS and get the ribbed sheet that EVERGREEN sells for roofing on scale buildings .        tankerbuilder

If you take the self adhesive foil used on furnaces and turn it up side down; use the tip of a butter knife to score the ribs into the tape. Now cut the tape to cover the whole control surface, that should do it.

What scale is the model, again?  You might try thread- it may be easier to glue in.  Some monofilament nylon stuff should work.  If it is a larger scale model, there should be strip styrene stock that would work.  There is even fine triangular strip stock which would be close to correct cross section.

You might try stretched sprue and liquid cement instead of wire and CA glue.  Keep the scribed grooves, too.
