This is a recent Brain Storm;
Like fifteen Minutes Ago! I picked up a soda can someone threw out of their passing car which was picked to land on my lawn! Hmmmm; I needed some P.E. for Bulwarks( Solid rails to you Land-Lubbers). Didn't have any. Money is tight this time of the month, Soooo!
I cut the Top and Bottom off the can and rolled it out flat! Measured with a Fine Point Sharpie and laid out the bulwarks I needed. Cut them with heavy duty scissors and, Hey! They worked! Well, My curiosity got the better of me.
I took an old Shelf of Doom model car and a small boat. Using Heavy Burnishing Tools I shaped the can metal and made a model Car roof and a small Ship Cutwater( The cutwater is a polished piece of chrome or steel on the immediate sharp edge of the Stem). Oh! I ain't finished yet!
Got a Beer and emptied it's contents-In my face of course! And rinsed it out and Cut the Top and bottom off of it! Now, it is two Wing fairings for a plane model and a Motor Whale Boat for a 1/96 ship model. I was able to shape out, using the nylon head of my craft hammer, and a dowel sanded to form, Two, Yes Two! Gorgeous Engine cowlings and cowl flaps for a 1/48 B-25! All that in little over a half an hour. The cowls were Made oversize by 1/8" the Overlap was shaped into the cowl bottom so that when Epoxied together they will be smooth!
Now I am sitting here typing this to you. I hope it helps folks. Oh! one more thing. I took a Panzer off that same shelf and using that same aluminum. I was able to figure out how to create a new Turret for it. It was a Glue Bomb I bought for a quarter The builder glued the gun to the turret top and I guess he figured he needed a pretty good sized glob of tube glue. Well, you know what that does. Viola' New Turret!
I had thought about it before, But never let it stick to the grey cells. This time it did. So, in closing. Don't forget to take pity on that poor Empty, Uncrushed aluminum can in your yard. It can be a good source of metal for Modeling!
Oh Yeah, By the way ain't it funny? I can drink four Fosters Stout in the pint cans at one sitting with no seemingly Bad Effects. But one regular sized can of Coke or other Soda will make me gaseous and uncomfortable! What gives with that?
P.S. Don't forget to WASH IT!! Before you use it, Even if you are the one to empty the can!
