Looks like you're off to a good start!  I love those old racers and I wish there were more of them out on the market.  I'd snap a bunch of them up in a heartbeat.  I have some but I wish there were more.  If the model companies could crank out tons of NASCAR kits, why not air racing kits?

Sanded down the putty primered and painted the first coat of flat white. The seam is not perfect but I figured a slight seam is ok because the cowling was removable due to maintenance needs.I could have made it perfect, but the mechanics on the real aircraft had to adjust the engine for optimal performance.

Picked up this Red Lion air racer and I was lucky that I had the April 2007 issue of FSM.Stephen Tytko's excellent article gave several helpful hints and heads ups that will really help in the construction process. The engine consists of nine separate cylinders as well as the block, crankcase exhaust pipes and front cover/pushrod assembly. The article states that the rocker covers have to be sanded down to fit the 2 piece cowling.A few swipes with a sanding block made the engine fit better.I elected to paint the engine and install it into the cowling. The fit was not perfect, leaving seams and I used my trusty Bondo Automotive Spot putty to deal with the problem. After I sand down the putty i will primer and paint the cowling assembly neutral gray ,followed by Tamiya flat white.I will then airbrush a thin coat of Tamiya gloss white.
