My civil / general aviation builds
Posted by heepey on Monday, December 22, 2014 9:46 AM

Some of my civil aircraft builds. Most of these are older builds and may not be the best but they are examples of what is available. I have been collecting and building general aviation kits for many years.

To start a couple cubs in 1/48. In back an Entex/Minicraft Super Cub on wheel skis. In front a Hobbycraft Canada J-3 with tundra tires

The skis came from a 1/72 DhC Beaver but fit nicely. I am still trying to make a set of snowshoes to strap onto the struts for the walk home.Smile

Cute little fellas aren't they.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Heepey,

Both planes look very well done!

If you have any unbuilt airliner kits in your stash, you should enter the Airliner GB: Click Here

Or at least check it out!

Ah! very nice.  Just finished the hobbycraft J-3, and have the Revell 1:32 supercub in the queue.

Don, looking forward to information about the Revell 1:32 super cub.  I've been looking at that kit in the Alaska State Troopers paint.  Curious to how the kit actually is before I run out and buy it.

Looks beautiful in the box and am anxious to start it.  Saw one converted to a J-3, but it was not very accurate- needs a lot of work to make it a J-3, but it looks like a good build as the super.  I intend to put a lot of extra detail on it, especially under cowl, and build with one segment of cowl open.

Don hopefully when you get started on the Super you will start a thread on it to let us see how it goes.

Another old AMT Locheed Vega on floats. These were used as bush planes in Alaska in the 30's until the termites got to them.

Entex / Minicraft Cessna 172 on floats. The bare metal foil did not stick well on the floats.

Lindberg Grumman Goose with reshaped tail feathers. These are used as bush planes in many parts of Alaska. This one is painted like one that I got to ride in in the late 60's.
