Revell 1/32 scale Super Cub

Interesting to see that the pic of the model shown has flaps, on my kit they did the very early L-18's withouth the flaps.

I built this kit a little while ago and after glueing the wing halves together there was a step in the leading edge needing filler.

This discussion has caused me to move my kit up in the queue. It will go on the bench after the current two projects are done.  I am going to build it as the civil version, and decided the decals for the rear window are not going to work- I will be using a gray interior paint.  At first I just thought I'd copy the decals using a gray color, but I decided I will actually make several panels out of 020 styrene.  The panels for the outside will just be glued over the window and painted with rest of the body.  The inner panels will be glued on and painted with my interior color.  Already scanned the decals and doing art work to covert the shape to a template.

I have the L-21 a version of the same kit I plan to do in the colours of the full size I built a few years ago.

I had the custom decals made up for it :-)

Cub-talk :) Flying my RC Cub - This is the plane that taught me about adverse yaw!

I actually could use an L4 or a Super Cub up this way. It would make tending to the land so much easier.

I promise some in progress shots tomorrow.

Got to ride in an L-4 when I was a kid just after the war.  The AAF had just provided it to the CAP squadron my dad was in.  I was too young to be a cadet, but I was kind of a mascot for the squadron, and no one objected to dad giving me rides.  The L-4 was stress for aerobatics, and dad had to show off how well the plane could do them :-)

I wasn't aware of this kit, gonna have to get one. One of my favorite aircraft. I'm building the Bronco 1/32 L4 Grasshopper but it is about 3/4 done sitting on the shelf of doom. Maybe seeing your progress will inspire me to finish.

 A family friend has an L4 that I got to use for a few flying lessons years ago so I have about 3.5 hours in it. Such a sweet plane to fly. So light you practically have to make it land. When I retire in a couple years I'll go ack and start over. Here's a pic. Chris

The engine is built. I really like the way it looks after painting. I'll try to post photos soon. 

I have a version of the kit with regular size wheels.  I think there are at least three kits out- one with the large wheels, one with regular wheels and European decals, and one with regular wheels and US markings. I had the middle one, but traded it away when the US decal version became available. It almost made it to my bench when a club challenge project usurpted is place, but it will be on my bench soon, so I will be interested in your build.  The engine in that kit sure looks nice- I intend to build with cowl open.

   I have Dat Boidy ! Yup , In three sizes too . Love them Pipers .That kit is one I haven't built yet . But dry fitting didn't show any impossible situations on it .

   See , I have this problem , If it says Piper , or Cessna I gotta bild it fer sure . Why ? Shoot , I don't know I jes like them . Besides , I used to own a J-3 , that was my very first real plane .

 It kinda reminded me of a larger version of the ones I used to wind the hades out of the rubber band and let it go .

 Didn't fly very fast but was a decent and forgiving aircraft . Let us know how you do , okay ? The actual plane is hard to land .It creates so much ground effect it doesn't want to do more than float down the runway .

   Thing is it's a grand trainer for the squemish ! ( oooh , That word looks weird )  T.B.
