Awesome!!! THAT thing....is going to be huge!!!
Cheers, LeeTree Remember, Safety Fast!!!
I dunno - the photos of the wreckage seems to point to a total rebuild. $3B is a lot of money though. Maybe it included the retooling needed to actually make new parts?
At the end of the day, economics will prevail. That $3B if accurate will have to be earned back by revenue generated from future flights.
There was talk a couple of years ago about China being interested in finishing the 2nd airframe, but that is moot if it also got bombed.
It's just so sad about this whole nightmare going on over there.
“Ya ya ya, unicorn papoi!”
$3 B US to repair. Wonder if the second one never completed would be cheaper to finish, or if it survived.........
Bill,
It's big, but the parts count is mainly due to the landing gear and its 6 engines. The airframe is pretty straightforward.
The interior cargo hold is made up of walls and a floor, which slip into the fuselage shell. It's the only kit I have ever found where the inner cargo hold did not interfere with closing up the fuselage halves.
I pulled my kit from the stash when I heard the news of the real aircraft's fate. I initially didn't like the blue/yellow Ukrainian markings, but they seem much more appealing to me now compared to Soviet red stars.
I've benn looking at that kit as well. It has gotten good if comprehensive reviews. I think the high parts count is in the landing gear!

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Necro thread!
Chris,
Were you able to work on your kit? With the sad destruction of the sole flying An-225, I was wondering if people who had the kit in the stash were pullng it out. I was going to do mine in Soviet-era markings, but decided to use the kit's Ukrainan markings instead.
Now this is going to be a real interesting build. That thing is huge. Here is some info on the 1:1 plane. Checkout the photo of the landing gear. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonov_An-225_Mriya
Your comments and questions are always welcome.

Thanks. I think I will probably start this in May. The room my planes will be in is still waiting to be painted and I’m changing out some furniture I’ve created a secret wall mount that I still need to make to hang this and the An-124 on the wall for display.

Tanker - Builder Hi kg4kpg ; I have always liked any heavy lift aircraft .I absolutely don't have room for this though .What a beautiful pile of plastic ! T.B.

Could you find a soviet space shuttle to mount on top?
Think I'll wait until Revell kits it in 1/72; LOL! The new tool kits from them are really a leap forward - hope you can get started on your WIP soon.
Thats very interesting with all those tiny wheels and alinement a very cool build.
Nick.
Oh, man, all those parts and white plastic too. I think snowblindness may be an issue.

Oh wow. Cant wait to see you build this one.
Thanks,
Received this beast in the mail today from Aviation Mega Store figured I would show what’s in the box. The parts look great. 30 pages of instructions. Still setting up my model bench so it may be a month or so before I can get to it, can’t wait.

At first glance, I forgot that Europeans use the coma like we do the decimal point! I said "holy cow," but then remembered that and the price didn't look so bad.

The price shown on Revell De includes the VAT tax. My price ended up being $107 which included $19.50 for shipping from the UK. With 203 parts, I imagine there will be a fairly complete interior, so I guess I'll have to do it opened up some which isn't my usual build style. We'll see. The display case I have has a larger bottom that tapers going up, I believe it will fit on the bottom parked at an angle. I have an An-124 to build so they will look good together. I'd like that Roden C-5 but it's going to have to get under a hundred before I get one. Should make a nice flightline.
kg4kpg Real G Holy gazongas. You are going to need a bigger display cabinet for sure! About 23” long with 24” wingspan. I think I have a spot.

So boys and girls, to give you an idea of just how big that is, cut a piece of cardboard 23" x 24" and test fit it into your favorite show case. (Mine is only 16" deep, so I have show case envy. )
I wonder if anyone will do parts and markings for a Buran carrier? A Russian company has announced an injected 1/144 Buran. At 100 Euros, it looks like RoG's pricing has gone up to normal levels. Their previous big kits were stupid cheap in the US. Nevertheless, you will definitely get more model for your money than a Roden C-5.
That's a huge B**ch! All those tiny wheels to paint. Looking forward to your build thread.

Just dropped a wad of cash on this monster. One of my favorite aircraft and I've waited a long time, so it's worth it.
