Here's two photos I took in 1989 at the Rancho Murieta airshow of the Coors Light BD-5J. I've been scanning old slides lately using a light table and a 100mm macro lens.
I found these in my stash.
I actually have the kit in the Deep Stash. The box is open and some parts are off the sprue. If someone wants to build them, PM me and I‘ll send it over (current global postal restrictions permitting).
I also took some photos of a prop version over at the Evergreen Museum in McMinnville, OR. I’ll have to dig around for the CD my trip photos are on. LMK if anyone wants to see them.
“Ya ya ya, unicorn papoi!”
If anyone has to have the BD-5 kit rigtht now, Jeff Garrity has two kits in his catalog today. (Rare Plane Detective)
mach71 GMorrison Don Stauffer That is cool! Reminds me- has anyone made a kit of the Bede 5? Very few homebuilt model kits out there, and the Bede 5 is sure one I'd like to build. Wait- the BD-5 IS a kit! Yup, and a cool one at that!

Agreed. I almost bought a BD-5 kit. Ended up with a Vari-Eze kit instead.

LoLYes, the Bede BD-5 was a kit plane.
And also an LS kit in 1/72
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Tanker-BuilderAs to what manufacturer, well that is an unknown at this time. At least to me.

Looks like the 1/72 was originally produced by LS, then ARII, folloed by Micro Ace.
That thing will be like a 1/144 next to other 1/72 kits.
Hi Don;
Yes to your question. They did and I have seen some once in a while. Both the prop and Jet versions. As to what manufacturer, well that is an unknown at this time. At least to me.
The Japanese came oput with a kit of both in the mid 80s. I think they did one for each aircraft and also a twin sey with both.
I vaguely remember one in 1/72 LS models made one,can be found on ebay.
Don, ARII did a kit with both the BD-5 and the BD-5J in 1/72. Kit 32107:1000.
I keep looking in trade a plane, but I've never pulled the trigger.
I always loved the design of the BD-5.
Nice pair of 5's.
Can just about park that BD 5 in the engine intake and still be out of the rain.
Here's the smallest aircraft being protected under the wing of our aircraft at a show in 1973:
It was transported to the show in a C-47 and the aircraft commander gave permission to keep it under our wing for safety when not flying.
