Master Box source.
Posted by Mike S. on Friday, November 28, 2008 10:02 PM

Anyone have a good online source for the Master Box line? They have a lot of new releases listed on both the Masterbox site as well as the US distributor DragonUSA, but finding anyone with the complete line in stock is another story.

Also, their "Scotland The Brave" 51st Highland Div. set has been on the back burner for quite awhile. Does anyone have an E.T.A. for this one?

Cheers.

I've found mine on eBay for close to or less than the MSRP (inlcuding shipping); they come from the Ukraine, so it takes a week or two, if you don't mind waiting.  Other than that, I don't do much shopping at online hobby suppliers.

Try History On Display. Great guy, great prices, and fast shipping.

Many thanks to all for the terrific leads. Each seems to have most of the currently available line in stock, which is more than I can say for many of the big online retailers.

Master Box has quite a few interesting subjects coming down the pipeline. I'm eagerly awaiting them.

Another manufacturer that offers some very interesting figure sets is MiniArt. There are some useful subjects coming down the pipeline from them soon as well.

I'd suggest hobbyterra.com - my favorite online store. They sport most models from many Russian and Ukrainian manufacturers including Master Box and MiniArt. I'm waiting for my 31st order. The good thing is that for order over $150 the air shipping is free worldwide.

I like Dragon, the newer Tamiya and now Mini-art (Jeep crew and MPs) when all mixed into a diorama they all look very convincingly alike! Masterbox looks as if they will round out the collection soon as the swapping of parts from one to the other brand should offer a wide variety of men on the side of the U.S.

I'm tired at looking at above the limit (for me) prices for two figures in a kit, it is about time soldier kits were affordable. By the way Italeri has a lot to catch up to. Also I'ver heard the Academy kits are a good source for kits of soldiers. The U.S. Machine Gun set is by far the best I've seen since Italeri and even their's is fairly good.

After 40+ years of kit building there are good and great kits, and some I'd rather not spend a nickle on!

Here here, I couldn't agree more. The cost of 1/35th and 54mm figures in particular have risen dramatically over the last 8 years or so, while the quantity included, in the case of sets, has shrunk.

Some warrant the doubling or tripling in price due to the considerable increase in sculpting quality (especially in the case of some resin offerings) but many of the styrene figures from the biggest makers have not improved proportionately in my opinion.  The smaller guys like Masterbox, Miniart etc. are trumping them in that area, both in terms of sculpting as well as anatomy/proportions and realism in posing. As a professional illustrator, I am accutely aware of these differences.

I'm also tired of certain manufacturers skimping on the crew figures for armored vehicles, planes etc. I realize that they want the consumer to buy their aftermarket figure sets, but one pilot or commander figure isn't going to break them.

It seems like only a few years ago when one could buy a top of the line 90MM White metal figure for the same price that many of the newest 54mm RESIN figures are selling for now.

Those makers of 54mm figures that have kept their prices reasonable (considering inflation) like HISTOREX/Nemrod are hard(er) to get in the States, at least the styrene Historex Napoleonics are.
