Need help finding some DML Dragon kits
Posted by senojrn on Thursday, January 15, 2009 7:39 PM

I'm looking for a good place to find the following O.O.P. (I think) 1/35 DML/Dragon Urban Elite Series figure kits--preferably unbuilt:

6502 LAPD SWAT Team

6503 Hong Kong Special Duties Unit (and/or 6508 Hong Kong Tactical Teams)

6506 NYPD Emergency Services Unit

I have done internet searches and looked on eBay for several months now and can't seem to find any of these kits anywhere--did they even exist?? Confused [%-)]  If you know of a place I could find them for sale, please let me know!!  I would GREATLY appreciate any help at all!

Those kits all date back some 15 years or so. Or just keep watching Dragons website and see if they will be re-issued. They do seem to dig up old stuff and reissue it every so often. Especially if something topical happens in the real world. I have the LAPD team in my stash. IIRC, the Hong Kong set was modified into the SEAL Team 3 set, and is still available. Your best bet to find these sets is probably Ebay or some of the online shops that specialize in 2nd hand or OOP kits.

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

These Urban Elite kits did exist back in the mid-1990s. Here is the complete listing:

6501 British SAS

6502 Los Angeles Police SWAT Team

6503 Hong Kong Police Special Duties Unit

6504 Los Angeles Sheriff MD500E (helicopter) with crew

6505 GSG-9

6506 NYPD Emergency Services Unit

6507 Hong Kong Police Special Duties Unit (#2)

I have all of these kits in storage, unbuilt. Maybe someday I'll get around to building them.

Stikpusher and Jagdwolf, thanks for corroborating my memory [and for the complete Urban Elite Series list!!]...I could'a sworn that years ago I saw these kits in my (then) LHS and now since I've been looking for them for so long and unable to find any (except the SAS #6501) I thought I had made that "memory" up.  Whew....

Can anybody point me in the right direction of a good online shop or three??  I'm not too familiar with many online shops.

Anything this old and so long OOP, your best bet is Ebay.Next would be to get out to as many contests/shows with vendors as possible. Brick and mortar or on-line shops are not likely to have stuff that old.

If online shops do carry them, the cost might be (inflated) beyond what some people could afford, never mind shipping and handling charges.

Just out of curiosity, senojrn, are you looking for the complete collection, or just certain kits?

Jagdwolf, just a couple specific kits: NYPD ESU, Hong Kong Special Duties Unit (#6503) and British SAS.  Fortunately, just after posting this, I found a NYPD ESU set and a British SAS set on eBay and got them for a pretty good price considering their apparent rarity. Propeller [8-]

Now all I'm looking for is the Hong Kong SDU!

I have an unopened Dragon 3502 LAPD SWAT Urban Elite Series (one small storage dent on side of box, otherwise perfect) and an unopened DML marked #3011 101st Air Assault [Desert Storm] World Elite Forces kits.  Both are 1/35th scale.

I'd like $100 for both, postage paid in lower 48 USA. I guarantee the items as posted.

I also have a Tamiya M60A2 kit (1/35), circa late1980s?  Hull and turret are partially assembled (no damage) but otherwise looks complete; w/box, decals & instructions.  $25  with postage paid in lower 48 USA

You can email Old782Gear@aol.com

So many things wrong here.

First, it's a response to a thread that has been dead for THREE YEARS. I was surprised to see one on my posts here, it's that old. How far into the archives must one search for such a thread and then not bother to check the date of the most recent post?

Second, while the LAPD set may be hard to find, there are 10 Dragon 101st Air Assault kits on Ebay right now between $5 and $17 each, so the $100 seems pretty extreme.

Third, a started kit has next to no value. There are two M60A2's on Ebay at $27 and $100, new in box. Thekit dates back to the early 80's or late 70's and has been rereleased several times over.

Lastly, selling is not allowed here. We may not like the rule and many could benefit from it in their searches, but that's the house rule and we have to live by it or hang out elsewhere.
