Hi Dan. Looking closely at the figure, that metal separation between the front and rear handguards, painted as metal in your excellent depiction, is correct, that is a 1/4 inch (swag) metal band that separates the front wood handguard and the stock at the bottom and the rear handguard at the top. I hope that's clear, the large "metal" part on the top of the rifle is incorrect, but that narrow metal space on the bottom of your rifle should carry all the way to the top, circling the whole rifle.
Here's a picture, it's an airsoft, not a real rifle, but I think you can see what I am trying to say.
If that's still unclear, I will dig mine out of the safe and post better pictures, I just found this pic online because it was quicker.
Really, though, that figure is absolutely stunning. With this minor fix, it is a show stopper.
