Adam
colonial blue with black, green, white and browns mixed in
Looking good!
Good idea on the yellow, it should be much easier to paint over it than painting yellow over dark blue.

for the flesh i airbrush the dude tamiya flat flesh , it also primes the rest of the guy lol.
i use acrylic for main painting, the flesh color is some flesh, red, white, and a reddish brown mixed together. for the lines on the face that create the overall features I use oils, not washes but paint in thin layers i like how the oil can be painted in precisely for this part . i still need to add a few more layers in the lines around his mouth and nose
I also use oil for the shadow between fingers
Good question Jim, They both look like originals yeah, but that one's a bit faded and the photo is a little grainy---it's from a Polish site and I don't know how well cared for--the one in your shot looks perfectly preserved , huh, like this one :
Shows the gang to always (cross)-reference sorry to lead ya to faded glory
is that uniform just faded from age??
I'm going with blue like this, pretty much copy the box art.
~Great start on another great DML figure Jim! Funny thing I'd never seen this old set until Mike Mclaughlin showed it to me the other day & now you show up working on it--kinda funny ! We we're talking about how usually you see the tan trousers portrayed, and usually out of the boot
(maybe you saw it already but I posted) the whole run-up on that uniform for a reference
