Pied Piper
Posted by ajlafleche on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 12:17 PM

Here is Nocturna Models’ petite 54mm resin kit The Piper. Some have suggested the sculpt looks like Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull fame. To me, he had to be the Pied Piper. To that end,. I chose a bright and colorful outfit and a dramatic look to the face. I used a spare figure base for the main ground work. The rats are from Plus Models and Scenic Express. The water is Envirotex resin with the splashes for the rat who has already jumped in created from Woodland Scenics Water Effects and cotton.

Note: No rats were injured in the creation of this scene.

I just took a look at the figures you posted.  They all look great.  Your subject matter is hard to paint, but it doesn't seem to bother you much because you always pull it off.  Your base work is outstanding.  This is where so many let their guard down (i'm pointing to myself) and it ends up detracting from the figure.  It would help my post count more if I would reply to each figure separately, but I'll just say "nice job" to all here.

Thanks for looking and for the nice comments. As far as the groundwork goes, most of it is Celluclay mixed with railroad ballast, paint and white glue. I has a small file cabinet with many types of foliage, rocks, tree stumps, grasses, turf and leaves from many sources. The actual bases either come from Micheals (decoupage plaques orsimple 2 inch blocks stained walnut with prices from 50 cents to a dollar) or from one of 2 or three vendors who specialize in bases. Some of those can exceed $25 for the finished base.
