Thanks. After the paint dried for a couple of days I gave it a pin wash of my home brew thinner and artist oil paint mix.

All you need is little bottles of Testors olive, white and tan enamels. Mix your own  shades as the DAK uniforms had a very wide range of colors as shown on the above pictures.

thats pretty dang good, I’m till getting back into the groove of painting again. I like your idea it also sounds a lot cheaper then buying a paint set as well. 

 

Thanks! Like old Bob Ross used to say you only need a couple of colors to mix your own. Now let’s paint some happy trees!

Yes, there are a number of paint brands that do uniform sets.  Note the AK set shows six bottles, but is only two colours with a highlight and shadow paint for each.  Don't know if it is any cheaper, but Scala75 has a 15% off sale at the moment:

If you don't mind mixing or intend to do just a few figures, then PJ has a good idea too.

One thing that was very prevalent was the field caps were almost white. The "newbies" coming into the theater would use various methods to lighten their caps so as to not look like newbies. The lightened caps stand out in a lot of group photos.

Not the grey, but maybe the others ... I would use them as a mixing base, otherwise you have aircraft/vehicle paints used for clothing.   The tropical cloth varied in shade, ranging from brown to dark olive green khaki.   Throw in sun bleaching and washing, the possibilitiis run all the way to an off white.

yeah i realized it was all vehicle paint colors but i figured it’d be worth a shot. I was just trying to see if i could make do with what i had or if i should order the AK set
