FF Hero Wookie Miniature

Latest addition to the painting the characters in the game set.  The hero Wookie.

groupphoto

Took a slightly different path with they figure.  Started off by priming black as there is a look of deep shadows in the wookie's fur.  Did a pass with light grey at about 45degree overhead angle.  First time attempt at using this thing people keep calling zenithal highlighting.

This kept the very back the darkest.

Then to really throw things off by covering him with a thinned lemon yellow.  I know it looks insane but hang in there with me.  This wasn't a heavy coat.  but enough to ensure all the highest place of the fur picked it up.

lemony1

It looks really thick on the head but that's because of the prehighlight.

Here's the start of some magic. I then coat him with rust orange wash.

Pretty neat, right?

A follow up with brown wash places the final set of shadows and gradients.

Then I start working from the foot upward with a light brushing of flat brown

Parts of the armor and staff (the head broke off and is glued back on later) painted with Vallejo Game Color Tinny Tin.  No really, that's what they call it.

Trim is picked out with more GC.  This time Glorious Gold.  Such wonderful use of alliteration in their paint names!
The close up shows I wasn't quite as consistent with those initial colors on the fur as I had thought....

Details continue to be picked out.

I has teeth

Some MC Red Leather is added to smooth out some of the rough spots in the fur.

Oh look, I remembered to attach the spearhead!

speared

Forgot to take pictures for a while...
But here it is with the drybrushed highlights and the rest of their accoutrements painted and a lovely coat of satin varnish.

looking pretty

All ready for their walk down the runway. :)

I think I have fingerprints on the camera lens...

And since it's an action pose...

Action

Pretty pleased with the transformation from where they started.

Thanks for watching!

Nice job, I'm getting into figures and am always interested in how others paint them

Thanks! Always fun to see how different painters approach their work. What subjects for figures are you interested in?

That's so cool Phoenix! Great job on him!!!

I did a giant bear years ago where I did the fur pretty much the same way with washes and dry-brushing. Wish I could find him...

Thanks Gamera!
Would love to see the bear if he turns up.

Makes me wonder.  If a wookie and a bear wrestled, who would win?
