Best head to the LHS and get a good model primer, I use the primers made by Gunze as they are the best where I am located.
Once the kit is primed your paint sticks to the primer and no longer to the underlying material. As long as your primer is comaptible with your paints and the Vinyl you should be ok.
I prime all my kits and use the very same paints and methods regardless if the kit is made from Plastic, Vinyl, Resin, Wood or White Metal.
You can layer different tpes of paints, best get a chart that shows which colour goes on top of which. Also laying a clear coat between different colours will help and allow you to strip one colour only if you are careful.
