The first call I ever went on during my clinical ride alongs in EMT school was for a GSW.The guy got shot once in the shoulder, shattering his right clavicle, and once in the upper right thigh, cutting a nice sized hole in his femoral artery.By the time we got to him, well, let me just say I've never sen so much blood in my life. Trust me dude, your use of blood is very tasteful.

The dio looks great. I'm not much into dioramas cuz probably it's not my field of discipline in modelling. I'm a photojournalist and have done some combat assignments, not in Iraq though. The only thing bothering me about the photo in your site is that if the firefight is on going and the guy just got shot, how come there were bloodied bandages already? Did he have the time to bandage himself? Looks to me like he was just shot and was desperately going back to his buddies!

Good point.  I still like it, though.  It makes it obvious what's happening.

Beautiful work on the dio.  Comment though that the blood looks a little too bright compared to what I've seen (am a doctor) but if it's a little darker I guess it won't be that noticeable and lessen the impact of the dio. Great work!

Future strikes again.  I was wondering if you used something different, I didn't look exactly like 27.  It looks good, blood looks different on different surfaces and you pulled it off.

I've never tried blood before in any dio, so I was also wondering what would work.  I was thinking of just plain red tamiya paint, but I remembered watching old war movies where they used red paint and it didn't look right.

Yes it is X-27 "clear red", nice call.  I also topped it off with some future to give it some contrast with the flat street cobble stones and worn green uniform, and to make it look wet.

I'm using figures from the DML "panzer riders" and the "fallen comrade" kits.

Hey, good stuff.  Is that Tamiya X-27 for blood?  I thought of using it as blood the first time I opened it, but I thought it would look like thin red paint.

Nice work. I think that is very ver well done. Not one bit distasteful, but definately hammers home the point. I am very excited to see the rest of the dio if it is going to be of this calibre.

It's tastefully done. Just like with real wounds, a little blood goes a long way.

As a medic I like the used bandages. Thumbs Up [tup] That is usually what you end up with under fire, a pile of bloody rags, not those nice clean jobs you see in alot of work. There were times in Iraq where it came down to duct-tape and t-shirts.

He is bleeding pretty good but we discovered in combat that when the lead hornets are pissed off and zipping around if it doesn't take you down hard initially most people can still function for a while just off the adrenaline.

Agree completely, no way you've gone too far.

Just one thought. This guy seems hit on the leg above the knee and is bleeding pretty much. I'm no medic, but for having such a wound that soldier seems pretty well up and chances are he will get another shot if he doesn't keep low.

Looks great to me armor, I don't think you've gone overboard or been distasteful at all, if you want to model war then thats war.

Serious question
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 1:32 AM

Hello everyone.  It's been about 2 years since I've been to the forums and I've taken about a 2 year vacation, but I'm back.

I wanted to start with a figure diorama, where a squad of German soldiers is pinned down by a sniper.  I wanted to add more drama to it by having one wounded German soldier out in the open, trying to get back to his comrades, while his squad helplesly hides behind the rubble.  This is kind of straight of Saving Private Ryan, but the wounded man is trying to get back behind cover and to a medic waiting by.  But with a wounded man a little blood needs to be shown so that the viewers can see what is going on.  I've made a bunch of dioramas in the past where a proud panzer tank crew is out of their tank, or a tank is being displayed, but no one ever see's the cost of war in my work.

But to the real question.  I added some blood, and tried to limit it as much as possible and keep it within taste, but I need more opinions.  Keep in mind that the links will take you to some pictures of my diorama, and they do have blood in them, just so you know.  I tried to keep it with taste, but any remarks would be great.
