Need to make lots of 1/35 gun slings.

Well, Im finally starting work up again on my Omaha Beach diorama, and realised I need LOTS of gunslings.  Can you buy sheets of PE gunslings?  if not, what ocould I make them out of? And whats the easiest way to attach them?  Glue doesnt seem to hold unless I put on a big glob, and even then, it doesnt stay.  Thanks.

There are PE gun slings available, (I'd try Aber first) complete with buckles and other hardware. Try a search on Greatmodels, VLS or other online HS.

You can make your own from lead foil. I collect it from wine bottle hoods, (which now are mainly heavy-gauge aluminum foil, but work just as well). Use an X-Acto knife handle and roll it out flat on a smooth surface, (a piece of glass or ceramic tile works well). Using a metal straightedge and a sharp, #11 X-Acto, cut thin, (~.030") strips of foil. Take a look at a photo of a real rifle you are modeling to estimate the length needed and where to attach them. Buckles can be made by folding small bits of foil around the strap, glue with CA and trim excess to fit.

I have plenty of this. E-mail me your ground address at ajlafleche@comcast.net and I'll drop a few sheets in the mail.

As an alternative, go down to your local "$2 shop" (read that as "cheap variety store") and pick up a disposable foil baking tray. You'll have enough material for hundreds of straps.

If you want to go "upmarket", you can pick up a roll of foil sheet from an arts and crafts store. (Will cost considerably more though).

Empty toothpaste tubes work too. .020" electronics solder, available at Radio Shack by the roll, can be rolled flat and works well for this purpose. No need to cut thin strips either!

I have been using the foil from good quality chocolate bars. Not your Hershey bars, but the more expensive (and tastier) ones.

I use strips of masking tape.  I paint the non-adhesive side first, then use the adhesive side to help me attach the sling to the weapon with super glue applied with a toothpick being the final method of attachment.  (Be sure to scrap off a tiny area of paint where your sling attachment point is, otherwise it won't stick!)  Once it is on the weapon, I finish painting, weathering and posing the sling.
