Looks great to me.  Specifically the fur texture, groundwork, and the eyes look narrower than some of your others (a good thing, IMO).    The mittens look ginormous in the first couple pictures, but I'm guessing that's the correct size?  Nice job.

Yeah, I wuz gonna say that the eyes look great. I like this one, MR. Is this one an older one, or did you just finish it?

Thanks, it is actually one of the first Verlinden pieces I ever painted...I just now got around to putting it on a base a few weks ago...today, I would have painted the coat more of a tanned-leather color...

Agree, Manny about the eyes--these eyes are much more realistic than some of your recent ones. The narrower slit is better for a war-wise soldier.

Great painting! I'm curious though--did they wear armbands on regular clothing? I thought that was something they only did on the white winter outfits?

Very good job. Better lighting would show off the details more. Good work in picking out the toggle buttons on the coat. Nice touch with the footprints in the snow. Verlinden posed the rifle very strangely in the figure's left hand, that's typical awkward posing in Verllinden figures and one of the reasons I moved away from them. I agree, the mittens look enormous.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

The hands on all Verlinden figures are usually way out of proportion.  I assume the sculptor has unusually large hands & uses his own mitts as a model.  There's a lot of other reasons to dislike Verlinden figures, but that's always been the big turn off for me.

What? No winter trigger guard on that K98 and the figure is wearing heavy mitten glove!  Just kidding my friend.  I always wanted to pick on some one who is far better than I am Big Smile [:D]

Manny, Bow [bow]

As always, great work and excellent detail on this figure.  Now, where's the female figure that goes with this lonely sentry? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]Whistling [:-^]

THat looks awesome.

How'd you go about getting the main part of the coat to look like wool?  (not the fur, the other part)  A lot of dry brushing?

I'm in the process right now of trying to get an overcoat to look a little more like wool than it does right now!!

...thanks, actually it is supposed to be dyed-leather...I base-coated it w/ a primer and "stipled" it w/ an old brush to give it a slight texture before the greys were applied...

Well, dyed, distressed leather has a bit of that smooth wool texture to it-- I think it looks perfect!!

I'll give that a try.  This figure business is a bit more difficult than I imagined it would be!!!
