What NON German figure sets would you like?
Posted by stikpusher on Thursday, December 6, 2007 3:20 PM

There are plentiful various sets of just about every German unit and uniform figure sets available in 1/35. However, most other countries are not nearly so well represented in 1/35 figure sets. Only recently have sets of WWII Soviets started to come around, and after a few US sets in 2nd and UK/Commonwealth figures in a poor 3rd place amount, many others have slim to none avaialble in sets. What NON GERMAN figure sets would you like to see Dragon, Tamiya, Master Box, or some other plastic manufacturer come up with?

I for one would like a set of: British Commando's, either Normandy or Rhine Crossing; Australian Infantry, SW Pacific; Italian Bersaglieri, Paratroops, or Alpini; Japanese Infantry South Pacific; US 1st Special Service Force-Anzio...

Lets hear your suggestions folks...

Stikpusher I would second your list:

I would like to see:

Italian Bersaglieri (infantry, armor and artillery units) with heavy wepaons like the gun everyone used in North Africa - the Breda 20mm AA/AT towed mount.

More British units especially in North Africa, the Med and the Pacific.

ANZAC troops!

French and Polish early war infantry and support weapons.

YYYYYYYYYYES! Me too! I LUUUUV painting girls! Preferably with fingerpaint! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Laugh [(-D]

Seriously though, since I build mostly German armor, I'm fairly content....but I'd like to see some GOOD American tankers, late war! Ditto that for the Brits!

Or some good plain ol' Civilians of different countries! Russian peasants, Berliners, Deutschvolk, Dutch, french, etc! Imagine the dio possiblilties!

I'd also like to see a box of well-sculpted doogs and cats, maybe horses too. The Historex ones are devilishly hard to find!

Also, I'd welcome a line of famous German/American generals, as well as a box of strictly Hitler himself, from Putsch-Hall days, to the famous "last appearance outside the Bunker" pose/outfit.

Did I mention "Tomb Raider"'s Lara Croft...?! (naked?!!!)

Sounds like someone needs a cold shower... LOL!

Well Dragon just announced a set of US 10th Mountain Div, Italy, 1945....

maybe a set of 100th Btn/442nd RCT "Go For Broke" Nisei would not be too far out of line...

Even though I'm quite aware of the fact that there aren't too many modelers that are interested in the Eastern European German allies - Hungary, Romania and Finland - I sure would like to see at least one or two kits of figures from these countries.

There are a small number of kits on the market, but only single figures of different brands. The quality of these figures is often very poor.

It's hardly impossible to find any Romanian 1/35 figures for example. Hornet got some Romanian helmets that could be useful for conversions - that's about all I have found.

Regarding Hungarian figures the situation is a little bit better, due to the fact that there are, at least, two Hungarian companies that make resin figures - Resination and Botond Models. A couple of tankers, a Hungarian military  police and one or two infantry men is all have found on the market this far, but quality of them is quite low.

From Botond models:

From Resination:

Regarding Finnish figures, all I have found is two figures. One is a superbly made infantry man from Lincoln, but I think this one is hard to find these days (I bought the last three on E-bay).

The other one is the Finnish field Marshall Mannerheim from an unknown manufacturer:

Just one or two kits of tankers and/or infantry - say of the ordinary Dragon/DML size (4-6 figures) - would create great opportunities for making interesting ww2 dioramas set on the eastern front. I especially like this one, a river crossing with both Germans and Romanians, from the Czech modeler Martin Schuster:

I have no illusions that some big company would find it economically sound to produce kits with eastern European allies, but at least this time of year, close to Christmas, I'm prone to think that miracles can happen. Wink [;)]

More Vietnam figs esp in relaxed poses.  I have some form Hobby Fan that are really nice but they are resin and more expensive.  I am working on improving my figure painting so I'm on hold for the resin figs right now.  I like how I do uniforms but faces are still really hard for me to be satisfied.  I got the andrea skin tone set but found I like washing with oils.  It seems easier and faster.

I would like to see North Africa US and British tankers, British North Africa troops.

most all the others that have been mentioned.

I would also like to see the box have all the same theme. If they are fighting, they need to be in firing positions: lying down, kneeling, standing {behind cover} all with either summer or winter uniforms not a few of each. then a set marching [on patrol not parade ground] tank riders,

I would like to see a full rifle squad in firing positions, and then a box with a 30cal {not a water cooled 50} or 2, bazooka teams and mortar teams, grenade [act of throwing]

then all the same in 48 scale

Oh, and in various uniforms US, British, ANZAC, Italians, Polish,Japanese, Russians and even Germans.

I don't like buying 4 kits to get enough figures to create 1 squad

The world does not revolve around WWII. More Korea, VN, ODS and everything in between. We seem to go from WWII to Iraq with very little in between.
