Flesh update looks great, and I like the bright blue sword sheath.  Just out of curiosity, have you ever done a base/scene with multiple figures in battle?  IMO the positioning of the figures has to be nearly perfect to look realistic, but I've always liked scenes with two opposing figures in a struggle.

Steve, the shade colours were a mix of Yellow Ochre and Lamp Black, and the highlight colour was straight Yellow Naples Hue. The basecoat colour was Vallejo 913 Yellow Ochre.

I thought about usin' a rotary tool, but i'm not sure whether it'll withstand the force or vibration.

What were the colors used for the shading and highlighting on the tunic, oustide of the lion? You do know that any information you provide will be stolen and used, poorly, by me- right?

Can you use a rotary tool to gouge the shield a bit, then retouch the paint job?

Thanks, Ian.

Got some progress made on this figure today. Time to start thinkin' about a base and a settin', I think.

I've accepted shading and hilighting as a hard learned skill that I have yet to acquire, but people who can freehand designs/family crest type things still amaze me.  Incredible work, especially on the lions.

I got his tunic shaded and highlighted now. I still need to shade and dirty up the the shield.

In buildin' up the figure and dryfittin' the shield I went on to cement it in place and totally forgot to gouge it, and show battle damage. I'm quite *issed off about this really! Sad [:(]

Cos', I used Vallejo's alcohol based metallics. They contain real flakes of metal, in fact the paint is jus' like liquid metal. It is the most realistic stuff around. Vallejo even offer an anti-rust varnish for it. For all my metalwork, I use this stuff.

The armour has now been flatcoated, and i've gone ahead with this design.

I got this image off the net (any old lion will do), printed it out and then drew some basic lines over it, so that when I paint it, I can first copy these lines down, and end up havin' the symmetry of the lion laid out, and lookin' pretty good.

My finished image of the lion looks like this. I may touch in some more 'fur' effects on the knees when i've finished paintin' the same image on his shield, but at the moment I want to keep things a little simple and not overburden myself too much. Next up, the shadin' and highlightin'...

I've finished puttin' this one together, I had it runnin' while I was puttin' the finishin' touches to my Roman. I've been in love with this Andrea figure for awhile now 'cos of its strikin' and death dealin' pose, it jus' has so much life and dynamism. I haven't seen anythin' else that can rival it!

This is a 2005 model figure from Andrea, and the fit of the parts are jus' exquisite, everythin' matches up perfectly with little fuss. Its awesome!
