Oops , wait a moment... 1375 years since the 6 month mark.

Sorry. Should have been 1305 year's

( Apperently I have 13 toe's . )

So the number I get is 2005 year's .... close enough.

( I was a much better student in "History class", math .... not so much. )

Confounded!  Somewhere in this mess Timmy found small figures in white uniforms. I've been through the entire WIP three times and I can't seem to find that post. Timmy! Where did you put it? Lol. I am sure its there. My speed reading is failing me. That or my aged eyes are.

I went to my friends hobby store yesterday and browsed the RR stuff. He has a bunch of RR figures for sale. Most were too small or too big. Mostly too small. It's a good idea of Tims to find something pre-made that can be modified. Getting them in scale might be the issue.

Anyway... this build is still in motion. Albeit, slow motion.

You da man.

Yeah I noticed they were out of stock back when you first posted It. I had hoped to get dimensional info on this but all they give is scale. 1/50 scale means nothing to this noggin. Does your fingers and toes have a way to covert this to metric or decimal? Hehe.

All well. Just sitting here not feeling like doing anything.

Once again you came through.

I need to do more research and calculate the scale I need. Then it is a question of do I want to plunk down $50 some monkeys for a few tiny figures that I will modify. And in the case of the female, heavily modify. Eh.. Stevie is squealing. We shall see.

Thanks for all the effort. It is not in vain.

Tonight, I set out to get a feel for the length of the figure/figures. I found this image from the movie showing how much of Taylors head shows from the back of the seat. I used this as a gauge to make a very crude wire frame to match that, fill the seat, and have the legs reach the floor.

Below: I stretched the figure out to get a rough estimate of length.

Below: This shows how little room that I must work with. I think it's doable, but towards the head that angle will need to go straight up. That will cut into the detail along that rail. Clearly--there will be a lot of changes.

Well--here is what I came up with by using some on-line conversions and Tims links:

The figure measures roughly 1 15/32. (Or close to 1 1/2")

1 15/32 = 37MM: Closest is 1/800 scale (.381mm)

I did some searches and thus far I did not have a much luck for this scale. I did find a few but the figures were too off topic to be very usable.

I long for the day when I can easily design what I want on the computer and then 3D print them. Boy--that would solve some problems.

That doesn't look right to me.

Did you mean 1/80 scale ?

37 MM is the total hight of the figure.

The average hight of a "Charlton Heston" is 6 feet tall.

Take 37 MM and divide by 6 ( I dont have a calculater handy ) This will give you your  One Foot Equal's  X.

Then we can go back to the  "Scale conversion chart" .

Hi,

If I am understanding correctly, your figure measures 37mm, but is meant to be a full scale height of 6ft (or 1,829mm).  If so then 1829/37 would likely mean you are looking at 1 to 49.4 scale + or minus.  If that is the case then I'd suspect anything along the lines of 1/48th or 1/50th scale may be suitable.

That's my thinking. According to the scale conversion chart I previously posted, A figure of 37 MM would be 1/8 scale. A bit too large for this application.

1:8 1 12″ (1.5″) 38.10 mm

Cars, motorcycles, Live steam trains (ridable), Miniature parkIC radio-controlled cars, Japanese garage kit figures, Aurora Classic Monster Kits

I believe this is closer.

1:50   6.096 mm Many European die-cast construction vehicles and trucks. Some early Japanese aircraft kits are also of this scale, and it is the standard scale for hand-crafted wooden aircraft models in Japan.

But this should be "dead on... EDIT: WRONG !

1:80   3.810 mm Tomytec made cars, buses and trucks in this scale. Very close to 20 mm figure scale in wargaming circles (20mm is actually 1:80.5).[5]

But the closest you will find " readily available" figure's will be...

1:76   4.011 mm Military vehicles. Used with 4 mm to 1 foot models as well.

Which I believe is just "slightly" too large. EDIT : WRONG.

If we use 36MM as the full figure hight of 6 feet, ( just to make it easier for me to figure in my rat's nest of a brain...) I believe the scale call's it 3.503

Which is 1/87 scale.EDIT : TOTALLY WRONG !

1:87   3.503 mm Civilian and military vehicles. Often used to describe HO scale. Original nominal 25 mmfigure scale; though a 6-foot human in 1:87 is closer to 20mm.

Now I'm completely lost ......    I need to lie down ......

A final thought.  A 37MM person would be closest to this. 6MM ( one scale foot) multiplyed by 6 = 36MM ( the overall hight of the figure.)

Which bring's me back to 1/50 scale.

1:50   6.096 mm Many European die-cast construction vehicles and trucks. Some early Japanese aircraft kits are also of this scale, and it is the standard scale for hand-crafted wooden aircraft models in Japan.

I would go with anything close to 1/50  1/48 scale.  I got so lost with that screwy scale chart I ended up going in a circle ! ( As evidenced above.)

Next time I will just stick with describing what "Butterscotch" taste's like .........

Thanks for the education guys.

Lol. If you are lost, then I am ... I am. Omg. Who am I? Have you ever seen the movie Altered States? I am that dude that regresses to that first proto organism. Yeah. That's it. That's me. Someone needs to reach into that'proto plasma and pull me out.

PS: Remember the show, Seinfeld? The show about nothing? Well, that is what this W.I.P. is turning into. It's the  W.I.P. about nothing. When the project ends it will be like... Oh wow. It did have a point to it.

Btw. For some reason, I am not getting emails indicating when posts are made. It's pissing me off. Even this W.I.P. is regressing to a proto WIP condition. Are we at the precipice of chaos? Should I call this WIP, Altered Icarus?

So many questions.

Maybe that means 1:80? You tell me. Thanks brother.

Well, "54mm" figure scale is in the 1:35/1:32 scale neighborhood.

What I occasionally use to make this easier is to convert fractions to decimals.

So, let's say we want to cipher a 306' DE in 1/350.
First render 1/350 as 0.0028571428571429.  Now multiply that by 306'.  This gives us 0.8742857 feet long.  This is a less-than useful number.  So, let's multiply by 12, which gives 10.4914 inches.  Now we are getting somewhere.  (In SI, we can multiply that last by 35.4 to give 266.48mm)

Back to our case here.  What we have is 1.5:72, which is 1:48.

We can check that by multiplying 1.5 by 25.4 which is 38.1mm, very close to our rendered 37mm scale.
So, let's convert 1 15/32:72, which is 1:49.0212--or near enough to 1/50.

Can be like voodoo, I know.  But, after a lifetime of converting one set of numbers into a different set of numbers.  Of knowing things like 1"=40' scale is actually 1:480 scale (1"=480").  Or knowing that 1:1mm scale is 0.03937 of 1:1 inch (which is needful bringing in millimeter-drawn objects into inch format drawings).

Capn, my friend. It might be easier for me if that next-time I ask you to do the ciphering. I didn't graduate past the one knot plus one knot is two knots stage.

Seriously, though. Thanks for explaining all that. I will save your formulas for future reference. For some goofy reason I missed the fact that I needed to convert that chart. I had thought it was already done based on a length of 37mm. I didn't have a good grasp on scales, and so, it did a flyover.

This changes things a bunch. With it being 1:48 there is a lot more out there to choose from. I quickly found something at Amazon. It is fairly close in length, the price is right, and with there being 100 pieces I ought to find something that will work. I will look more before I pull the trigger on this, but, this is looking like a good option.

You guys are the best.

Oh gee whiz, glad you guys got that figured out.

In 1/800th the Icarus would be pretty close in size to Kirk's Enterprise!!!

There should be a lot of 'O' gadge figures out there, and 1/48th aircraft should work as well.

You could also check 28-32nd scale gaming figures.

I did find this one, cool but not too true to the movies though:
