man this is great! I love the paint job, and the giant bug!  Like Brown said, this should be on some sci-fi book cover!

Simply fantastic!  I could see an artist rendering of this on the cover of ANalog, or some pulp sci-fi magazine.  Great imagination!

Sorry to hear 'bout the putersdrive. But your models are looking FAB. Do you remembere a guy who used to do similar work for either Tamiya Mag or Sci-Fi Modeller?

Ahyoo cool looking stuff, keep up the good work.

For Philip`s question TIS DUN.

Back Story
The colony vessel S.S Titan.1c was enroute carrying colonists to their new home when it was struck by a huge asteroid of frozen ice which defeated the sensor system by its non metallic content. At the time of the incident space marine Joe Thudd was about to have dinner and this was his last trip, awaiting discharge on his arrival and reunion with his family, and attired in the dress version of the MARS suit went immediately to the life capsules on the order to abandon ship. Due to his military status he was able to comandeer a Goblin capsule, part of the off-board armament of the paramilitary mothership. He had intended to try to rally together the other civilian escape capsules and using his ships superior sensor system overide theirs towards a hospitable planet and be able to secure their safety with his limited armament upon planetfall if needed. Unfortunately due to a system failure when he tried to search for the nearest safe planet, his ships systems imediately went into autopilot leaving the other capsules behind, eventually landing him on a desert world far off the normal shipping lanes.
MARS suit
Marine Armour Reactive System. A combat suit with reactive impact system and limited ablative laser defense.
The suit has an internal reactive foam which upon impact by a projectile forms a solid shield stopping penetration, the harder it hits the quicker the wall is created by employing the heat upon impact. The projectile dosn`t penetrate but brusing and broken bones can occur. The exterior of the suits surface has limited deflective qualities to lasers but continued exposure will eventually erode this surface.
The shoulders, upper back, elbows, cuffs and head have padding which help protect the soldier in falls, nil gravity and when wearing the exoskeleton fighting frame.
In use the large collar is turned up, which attatches to the hat leaving a narrow vision slot, and gloves, which are carried in the trouser pockets, fix themselves to the cuffs of the jacket. Attached to the hat are on the left, a coms link to the command net and on the right a multi function camera. On the left cuff is a screen that will show what the camera is `seeing`and on the right controls as to function, zoom infrared etc.
The MARS suit is regarded to be the marines best friend after his firearm and it is often said of it "A Mars helps you work rest and recycle out of the combat zone.

Enjoy all

Very, very cool builds. I love the inventiveness on display here. This is what modeling should be about, finding innovation where ever you can, great work and I'd love to see more!
Having said this, I think its not the best thing to do to announce you're leaving because there wasn't much feedback. This isn't the busiest forum on FineScale, and people may not visit for awhile. It does not mean its not appreciated. If you want a wrapt audience for these sort of subjects, you should try starshipmodeler.com's forum.
Anyway thanks for posting these, and we'd love to see more!

I know what you mean, most of my posts get one or two comments (usually I'm the second) but don't lose hope.  I've actually really enjoyed your junk builds and your spider creature made my arachnaphobia flare up so good job!

If at first you do succeed, try to hide your astonishment.

Great looking diorama. I really like that bug creature. Your work makes me want to try something similar.

I'm sorry this was commented on more.  This is great!  When I first saw that spider-type-thing i thought it was real.  I like the flecks of blue paint, an overall excellent paint job.

Hoyhoy`al

Long time no input. I`ve had brief visit to the old witch doctors at the Hopisotol, so no work done there, (they seem to frown on paint on the sheets, no sense of humour or priorities!). When they finaly decided I was going to carry on breathing regardless they let me home to find my `puter`s 2nd hard drive had crashed and all my work was gone  Angry ,8 years of research on the net wasted, bloody   Angry  Bang head  .

Anyway this is something I started before life`s little surprises and if you only like long legs on women (or maybe men) don`t look any further. It`s built from some sprue, bits of brass wire and talcum powder in Johnson`s Klear with some small ballbearings for the `eyes`.

The armature for the legs was thin brass wire bent up and added to a couple of pieces of thickish sprue for the body. the bumps and bulges were built up on the rough frame with talcum powder ( lavender flavour) mixed into some Klear and painted on, left to dry and then built up further to the required shape. A sort of slap on sand off in reverse. A dremel round router was used to make recesses for the balls and they were glued in.  So another dio accesory built for peanuts from scrap.

All comments as per the norm,
 Cheers  Drink
G

ps The aforementioned peanuts are what I am now eating by the bucket load as an attempt to give up smoking.

pps Due to the general lack of feedback (which to me is more than half the fun off posting) go to here to see the finalised build in a few days.

Hoyhoy`al

Thanks for the comments, nice to know that there is people out-there.

There`s no backstory really to this one, just my excuse as below. I built it simply because there was a lot of scifi stuff going on on another site and I like the non specific style of scifi modelling.

"It`s always puzzled me how in films, etc how their involved in an inter species war of survival, on ships armed to the teeth,  but always eject to safety in an unarmed little pod in a bright colour with just enough fuel to reach the planet that they were fighting about in the first place. A sort of out of the frying pan and into the fire scenario.
This model is going to represent an alternative to this. Its armed, maybe short life/range kinda weapons but at least some defence is an option in an genocidle war. It will be camou`d to some degree and have the option of flying away from danger to a decent distance and the ability to land and lift off again. This should at least avoid the longest part of the film/book/backstory etc, of the boring saga of the trek to safety.

Oh well back to boldly sanding where no hand has set foot,"

I just don't think people have noticed it yet? I would also post it in a scratch build thread as it is pretty incredible! Weekends are kinda slow here too.  I really am luving the metal finish and weathering.  Are you coming up with a story to go with these beautifully rendered unique ships?

I don't usually browse this forum, but the title grabbed my attention so I thought I would take a closer look.

All I can say is WOW!!!  That really is very cool.  I really admire people like you who can look at an everyday object and see something else there.  Truly inspiring.  Keep it up, I'll keep my eye out for your next one. Bow [bow]

This stuff is so cool!  I dont know why no one else is commenting.  I really like how you can see a design in everyday stuff.  I like your paint scheme here too.  Your ships look cool, keep em coming.  It must be really cool to show everyone unique models on your shelves.

If at first you do succeed, try to hide your astonishment.

Continuing with the modified paint job of yesterday, I`ve tried to give the impression of severe re-entry burn (As the Bishop said to the actress) with black paint mainly remaining on the top surfaces and panel lines with the filler burnt out. As mentioned a little dio base just 3 inches square, and now working on a figure and a suprise in the vein of Hitchhikers Guide etc.

And finally a view around scale figure height.

Now 300 people have looked at this and only one reply, what am I doing wrong Question [?]. Very suspiscious for this forum where the members are usually quite vocal. Comments are at least half the fun Laugh [(-D]
Enjoy, Cheers  Drink

Anyway here`s WIP 1/2 way through painting, hopfully looking like re-entry burns hurt and finished in as promoised very very off white.

Over the silvers I did use salt as promoised as a mask more of which later. After the salt and water had dried I blew over a coat of acrylic dark blue and painted on a liquid mask in wavy wandering lines. A word of warning, a friend of mine (friend?) gave me a bottle of Ameroid eazy mask as I`m unable to get any Humbrol liquid mask locally. Reading the instructions it said I could cleanup with water which it did very well, the Humbrol mask has ruined more brushes than I care to count. Then I sprayed the model in black enamel. After the paint had dried I stuck the whole thing in a bowl off water and removed the salt wih a soft brush. Now I`ve seen some incredible models ,usually of Japanese a/craft, using the salt method but for me it just don`t work. It either dries as a lump or the chipped paint effect is just to small to be noticed, but at least I`ve given it another go. The bottle of Ameroid states if the mask wont move try lifting with a wet knife blade. This wouldn`t shift it either and when it did come away it took most of the acrylic paint with it hence the blue tints on the model. Anyway another lesson learnt.
Well the next couple of days should see the painting done, and I think for a change I`ll do a little dio`and add a figure  Grin
Comments as normal and I`m quite thick. (skinned that is)

Along with the 109`s I`ve been fiddleing with this and made a few changes. The little bulges on the side have now become slippers on the landing legs and new bulges added as  bustle tanks.

The cooling fins on the engine have been moved to suit and a little cleaning up and I`m ready for final paint.
In the past I`ve tried the `salt` method to show worn paint but without much success, to going to try again with this whif wip.
Comments Etc as usual

After the last pics, a rub down with 1200 wet n dry wet and worst of scratches removed. Trouble is while one half of me was working out the next airbrush colour, the other half is three steps ahead and thinning down some black oils and getting a runny wash going. Next some enamel gunmental and silver dry brushed on bits. After the graphite powder came out I just laid back and went with the flow.

Obviously in the last pic the leg I broke off needs repositioning. Next a trip to London for some acrylic varnish to fix the graphite then some more washes and reentry scorching etc.
Incidently the base is in the process of painting for the Me109X build and the drums and cans are sceanic scatter for the spring clean build.
More as and if/when

That's really cool. Whatever it is you're using to build it lends itself perfectly to the smooth lines of a spacecraft.

I like the curves its got, and with the small add on parts it takes on a very nifty Art Deco sort of look. It would look even cooler with some chrome on it somewhere. I can hear it screaming for Alclad.

I've got no criticism except that if you do go with a metallic finish, it will be easy to see the sanding scratches.

Next batch, after adding a few bitz and a blow over of tamiya gunmental. a sort of walk round.

the last is a top view.  As an impulse build I think this is working quite well, as is often the case with me and I`m enjoying it enough to keep putting down the serious builds to return to this. As always comments critiques and bills for damages read but mostly ignored,
