Sorry about that, SG.  The Copper and Gunmetal were Tamiya.  The black for the wash was Polly.  The Light Ghost and Gunship Grays were Model Master from Testors ( just remembered I used some Dark Ghost for some plating detail ) along with the Russian Marker Red from their international line and the Steel and Jet Exhaust metallics.  The one I really don't remember was the odd Tamiya gray in the nose intake, I just grabbed the one that best matched the other intake stripes.

The colors he named are in the Testor's Model Master range.

Ok I gotta ask, since you all know already, when you are giving the names of these colors what brand are you talking about?

If at first you do succeed, try to hide your astonishment.

Excellent work on your Viper, Kugai!  Beautiful masking job.  Thanks for sharing that and sorry that they didn't want to allow it at the contest, as I bet it would have done well.

Truthfully, I don't care what excuses they have. Your model was cool. They were lame.

I thanked you in the other thread for the tip on Russian marker red, but I'll say it again:Thank you, I was looking for the right color for that.

Colors used: light Ghost Gray base ( per instructions ), Gunship Gray for sunken areas ( around the piping and between engine nozzles ), Steel and Copper pipes and greeblies as needed, Jet Exhaust for engine nozzles, Tamiya Gunmetal for intake fans, black sludge wash, Russian Marker Red to patch or replace trouble spots on the striping decals.  The only color I don't remember was the darker band around the nose intake, I just used a Tamya gray that seemed to match the decal colors for the gray stripes in the other intakes.

Cosmic, I don't know what their deal was at the con.  The rule as printed has long been that kits had to be "customized" and I didn't enter anything for years because I didn't have enough spare kits to kitbash.  A friend of mine who'd been to the con years before me said to show them a from-the-box kit because she thought the level of detail I add before publicly showing should make up for a lack of kitbashing.  I took the ID4 alien fighter on the other post a few years ago as an example for the department head that year and he said even if they were straight from the box I could bring as many more in next year as he had table space for if they were up to that standard.  He said the "customize" rule was to avoid entries with bare plastic and glue dripping or sloppy paint jobs.

So this year I rush to get the BSG kits for a 30th anniversary theme and the new head says "kitbash only" and "If it's from just one box, it's not acceptable" without even seeng them.  I'm going to try talking with whoever's in charge this year to try to make a few points.  If they had tons of entries and were trying to avoid 5 of the same thing, I could understand the rule to avoid arguments on whose straight-from-box kit is best, but there has been nothing in plastic for about a decade so I don't see that as a valid excuse.  We'll see what they say and if you're interested I'll keep you posted.

Nice. Very nice. Can I ask about what colors you used to paint it?

That sucks about the art show. Did they give you a decent justification, or were they just hatin' on a player?

BSG Viper (old kit )

I got this done for the Marcon in Columbus, OH last summer.  I missed the old days where people brought models in and decided that rather than just continuing to gripe, I'd do something about it.  This is the kit I posted about the decal problems I was having months back and ended up "patching" the stripes with the Russian Marker Red.

First, the sub-assemblies with rescribed lines ( a first ecxept for touch-up of lines lost in sanding on previous kits ) and primer.

  224 by you.

Assembled with base colors...

226 by you.

227 by you.

Decals added and "patches" for broken decals done, sludge wash dying...

228 by you.

And, finally, wash cleaned up...

229 by you.

The last two were at the hotel room the night before the con.  The punch line was, after all that last-minute effort ( I'll try to never set a deadline on kits again ) in the wee hours of the morning, they wouldn't let me display them at the art show!  Seems that in the last 2 years since I asked about requirements, and with no models on display at the con for about 10 years, the organizers added a rule where any "unmodified" kit will not be accepted.  No matter how much detail is added, if it's not scratch or kitbashed, they won't take it.

Oh, well.  There's still the local model cons.

Hope you guys like the pics!
