Just got done drilling 130 holes.

Probably start on the scribing tomorrow, got a few things gluing at the moment and have to do some touch up on the outer edge and replace the edging around the cockpit since I had some trouble removing the tub.

130 HOLES, wow thats a ton of holes. what were they used for?

They are used on the panels to simulate screw placement or something.

Check out the filming models I linked to in your thread and you'll see what I mean.

I used a pinvise to do them but it didn't really take that long.

I counted them AFTER I did them so it wasn't so daunting. LOL

I went back and check out those models and it does look good, ill have to add that to my list of things to do. In order to not drill to far in did you use a guide or anything to keep the drill bit from going to deep?

A few turns should do it but after a couple mishaps I went all the through on all of them accept the 2 on the back flap area.

A little spot putty on the back will fix it.

Alrighty,

Just got all the scribing done on the main upper body.

It was easier than I thoughy it would be.

Only down side is I discovered after I started that I drew the lines between the 2 support pylons off by about 1/4 inch.  oops.

Go slow and use the back edge of the blade.

I used a standard metal ruler as a straight edge.

I also used a couple phone books to rest the piece on so it was flat and easy to work with. 

After many messed up attempts in the past I am finally over my fears of scribing.

Made a little progress today.

Cut out a few panels but sadly there isn't much space in there.

You should find some useful pix in this thread for the gun.

Yeah I was thinking some small ribbing and some wiring.

I wanted the round one to be a refueling port.

I just picked up some 3/16" brass rod for replacing the cannon tubes.

I was looking to some perforated plastic or metal to place in the panel openings like the stuff used on the studio models but couldn't find anything so I guess I'll have to try and hand drill enough to fit my needs.

Got a bit more work done.

Made the inner panels with all the holes.

Also started reworking the guns.

Another update.

Found some mesh that is close to what was used inside the wings in my stash.

Finished the foot holds.

Gun barrels are almost done, needs a bit of clean up.

Started the interior blocking out the rear area since the engines will be removed.

And Introducing "TEAM SPEEDER"

These lovely Ladies are the maintenance crew on this little project.

Awesome work, and i do love the figures too.  A little pricey but like you say real cute. They are worth it just wish they offered a buy 3 get a little discount thou....

Yeah they are expensive for the size but I have been buying garage kits for the last 2 years mainly in 1/6 scale and those have ranged from $45 to over $200.

Accept for a seam right over the top of the head of the girl with the wrench these are really clean castings.

Most of the seams are well placed and hidden not like some of the other figures I have.

Of course most of the large ones have little or no cloths so it's really hard to hide a seam.

This model was essentially free since I've had it since 1980 I needed to spend money on something in the way of aftermarket parts.

Still have to figure out what to do about the engines.

They are sweet figs thou, I love the garage kit industry and had a bunch of the female figures, just couldn't paint them to have them come out looking decent so i gave that part of the hobby up and sold them all. I can't wait to see how you paint them and Im getting really anxious to see how you pull off the engines being out of the speeder, this is gonna be a really cool build and dio!

As far as the engines go you could try what i did and use part of the engines from the pod racer, not sure if its close to scale but for me for just showing part of them it worked out ok.

Still gotta figure out how to pull that one off.

Might look into some F4 engines like they used on the X-Wings.

Eric, those are also truly amazing as well.  You are a superior builder, will check those out as well.

I make it up as I go along, trying new things.

Really I have no idea of what I'm doing and always over engineer every thing making it to complex.
