I get bummed about kits easily if they don't go my way and that takes it out of me for a while.  I'm currently working on an f16 and the puttying went bad.  Then I tired painting without priming first cause I didn't feel like waiting for it to dry.  Big mistake.  Now I can't seem to get motivated to strip the paint off and do it right.

Plus, college sucks.  I wont really get time to have fun till winter break, which will be two weeks.  At least I graduate this year.

If at first you do succeed, try to hide your astonishment.

So Woody have you built anything yet! ?!  You know you have to be in the mood cuz if it stops being fun and more of a chore it loses it's luster for me!  That said sometimes a short quick simple build can put the fire back into yer styrene!  If that doesn't work then maybe a good kick!?

Hmmmm,

There definately is a problem with me too.

I've got three builds on the bench and while they are always on my mind and I am working at them I realize I have distractions:

Family drops in.

Friends stop by.

Friends and family call me.

Shopping trips for supplies take too long.

Being a 'creature of comfort' the recliner, TV and even bed, constantly call out for me? Oh, meals too?

I have decided to attempt to change some things:

Friends must stop thinking I want to see them so often! I will therefore stop allowing them in the door and they can say whatever is needed from the porch! Those who call will be put on hold until someojne else calls and then they can talk to each other. If a bill collector happens to call in, anyone camping out on my phone line had better settle the bill too!

Family? Heck, they're family, I'm putting them to work at my bench or at least they can bring me coffee refills!

Stores, darn well better locate themselves closer to me or risk my wrath! Also they had better make a dedicated express checkout just in case I do still visit them! Oh, and the police had better forgive my speeding back and forth, for I am on a MISSION!

My furniture, the chair and the bed, can talk to each other while the TV can entertain them for now on!

Yup, I've got work to do and these distractions are just going to have to understand!

Alas, food is still good and will remain, but perhaps, in IV form?

I'm jumping back in too, all this darned 1:1 scale took up too much of my time! I finished a ship kit, and honestly I think that thing was holding me back. It wasnt for me, but it sat there mocking me (club build for a veteran). It seemed like once I got that thing off the bench, things got a LOT better. Knocked out a 25mm tusken (sorry 4438 its not you! LOL) and won at a Regional with it Saturday.  things are looking up! I even cleaned my desk some last night.  Im ready to get back in the saddle again.

Its surprising but I really do think that having that ship kit languishing really hampered me from getting to the bench and digging in.

If you aren't having fun, you're doing it wrong! Build to please yourself and they will flame you every time!

you are not alone i too have a project that awaits my attention, its a revell gartan from the takara co. of tokyo.  while stationed on the rock (okinawa) i saw lots of robot models an picked up one or two. i found this one on my return slaped it together an displayed it the barracks, upon my disscharge packed it up and sent it home,it didnt quite survive.  it lay dorment untill a few months ago i pulled it from its resting place and started rebuilding it. its now to the final stages of completion but alas the sprit had left the workbench for other projects. now it sits at the coner giving me the stink eye every time the bench lights turn on. he wiil be compleated somday but in the meantime i have to endure that constent stare.

Hi-

WoW!!    5 projects going all at once??

I don't start a new kit unless I've wrecked or finished the current one.

You have more Drive then I've ever had.Bow [bow]  Don't sell yourself short.

Try reading build articles, it works for me.  Something about learning how other modelers do what they do inspires me to try, I guess.  Look-up some of The Doog's how-to articles and I'm sure the "Bug" will bite again.

Good Luck

It happened! The Tenax is flowing and the X-acto is cutting once again. I took out a project box and started in on my 1/1000 Old Light Cruiser. I finalized the shape of the hulls and made the grills for the sides of the secondary hull. Big Smile [:D]

I stocked up on some supplies and I think I'll try to get something done in the next couple days.

I made a New Years resolution to work on and finish 12 kits that I had started over the past few years, then let sit.  So far, it has helped me remain motivated.  I'm not buying any new kits nor opening anything in my stash, until they're finished.

I also have a big stash of metal figures in various states of completion, that I am working on at the same time.  The resolution build has helped me work on those, too, since I'm trying to spend more time at the bench.

It is tough at this time of the year, though, since it's summer, and I'd rather be outside.

But on the other hand, I've also decided not to forget that it's my hobby, so though I'm making the effort to finish more, I'll get done what I can.  I like Scott Girvan's motto, "Completion, not perfection".

It's been two years now, since the last work I did on HMS Surprise, the movie version, in the ships forum. Kodiak is clear glossed, and waiting decals, the Podesti class cruiser is waiting primer, and I've almost finished the construction on the Douglas X3 Stiletto kitbash (latest distraction). The model railroad projects have all taken back seat to the Sci Fi builds....I'll barely live long enough to complete what's in process now, and I can't resist starting something new. All I can say is, welcome to the club Woody!

Don't feel bad we all get it from time to time, for some its a very long dry spell and for others just a few days... I am in a dry spell right now. I have a ton of projects in the works and i cant seem to bring my self to finishing my super detailed snowspeeder, however I am hoping I get motivated here real fast.

I also go by my work bench not being able to have the motivation to sit down and get working, staring at my projects but due time youll be back at it!!!

It's all good, Chris!  I know how it is.  I got thru that all the time.  Longest dry spell I had was after my daughter was born - it lasted roughly 7 years!  I still get a dry spell, but mostly of late it's family time cutting in to my modeling time, not so much the desire.

It'll come back, one day.  Maybe pick up a simple kit and "slap it together"?  That's worked for me in the past.  Don't let yourself do more than basic techniques for finishing, no accurizing, super-anal painting or anything else beyond maybe custom decal work.  There are those pre-painted, snap-tite Star Wars kits that could use a basic paintjob to spruce them up.  Thought about that a couple times of doing something along those lines w/my son.  Maybe look at something similar w/Christopher?
