Viper Mk.II -W.I.P. update 20/11/09
Posted by TANGO 1 on Saturday, November 14, 2009 4:37 AM

Hi everyone,

here's my first adventure in resin! One of two 1/48 Black Sun Vipers to be built side by side for an in-flight display.

First up, Galactica's Viper Mk.II, here are the build-up pics, it has since been primed and corrected, I need to get some paint on next. Engine parts and guns have already been finished, so far so good. Markings will be for Starbuck's ship will be in flight next to Apollo's Viper Mk.VII.

Here are some WIP pics:

Progress on the Mk.VII coming sometime this weekend-see you later!

Looking good. I can't tell you how many times I've been tempted to buy one of those. I've always wondered how difficult it would be to drill out the engines and light them.

I like this design almost as much as the classic Viper. I'm really looking forward to seeing this build and the in flight display.

Swanny,

Thanks! Its a nicely detailed kit, I would love to light one of these, but lack the know-how. The rear of the fuselage has a seperate mould for the top engine and the two side by side engines underneath are solid and part of the fuselage. You get hollow burner cans with the kit, so I imagine that one would have to drill holes at right angles so that wire can be pushed through from the bottom of the fuslage to the inside of the engines.

If you figure a way to do it-let me know, I'd love to try something like that!

Woody,

I am big fan of the new design Vipers, I plan to have two in flight and another two in a hanger dio. I just hope I do a good job on them-they were expensive!

Cool. The castings look very clean. I'm assuming the grid on the mat is in centimeters?

Does the kit come w/ a pilot?

Yes, the grid is centimeters and no the kit does not come with a pilot. I'm using one from another Mk.VII kit.

The castings do need a little work here and there, but on the whole they are very good-I am just waiting to get back to the bench so I can re-prime the fuselage, I think I've got it nice and smooth now.Thumbs Up [tup]

Quick update on this one, the model has now been resanded and primed and is looking much better. I have a couple of bits to take care of then this one is ready to see paint.

So, you have four of these late Vipers?  Two in flight, and two for a hangar dio?  WOW!  I can't wait to see how you get on with these. Big Smile [:D]

Here is how the Mk.II is looking now. Got the red stripes on and attatched the engines, I need to do some tidy-up on the paint work, but I'm enjoying this build emmensely so far.

Is that red band a decal or painted on? Either way it looks very good. By the way, I'm blaming my next credit card bill on you, my wife will be wanting to have a word with you.Big Smile [:D]

Guney, many thanks! Thumbs Up [tup]

Swanny,

thank you! The red bands are painted on, was a little tricky for me but I know you'll have no trouble. Great to hear that you are getting one of these, I'd love to see how you go about building yours.Wink [;)]

My apologies to Mrs. Swan.Whistling [:-^]
