Meh, I'm lucky to be able to afford what's in the box, much less any aftermarket bling.

The situation is not as bad as I thought.  It's just that the decals are really thick, and in this scale that thickness exacerbates the problem.  I've been hitting the decals I've applied so far with coats of Micro Sol, which is helping.  It won't be contest quality, so I guess I'll have to put it on a high shelf when I'm done.  Oh well.

Yeah, it's got a gloss coat on it already and the water I was using was almost as hot as the tap can put out.

I guess I'll have to pick up some stronger decal setting solution.  Maybe my Micro Sol went bad?  It's about five years old.  I wonder if it does that-go bad I mean.  Hmm.

That's a nice looking build, by the way.

I didn't have any issues with the decals laying down, but I used Mr. Mark Softner which might be a bit more aggressive than Micro Sol.  A couple of tricks I used that really helped the decals laydown..

1) Make sure you have a good gloss coat down for the decals to ahere to, 2) Use warm water when soaking the decals, it really helps to soften the decals.  I also use a candle warmer to keep the water warm while I am using it.  You can get them at most craft stores for about $5.  3) Make sure to put a drop of dish soap in the water to break the water tension. 4) I put the Aztec decals down then clear coated them before putting the other markings on the model.  For this build I thought the Aztec was a litte too strong so I clear coated it with Tamiya Clear Pearl, this helped add some lusted and tame down the decals before putting the markings on.

Good Luck and enjoy!

Jesus, talk about a PIA.  I started working on the decals for this kit this morning around 5am.  I started with the decals around the bridge area.  Man are they thick!  And even with Micro Sol they are not laying down flat to the compound curves of the bridge dome and B/C decks.  One more to go in this area, then I start the main aztecing decals.  Has anyone else had trouble with these?  Crazy.
