I work mainly with 1/1000 scale starships. I build kits, as well as scratch building. I have had a problem with the thin decal stock. Is there a product to bulk up this stock, I am tired of ripping the decal.
You may wish to use a fixative, such as Testors Decal Bonder. Just spray it over the decals before cutting out and applying. I have no experience with it, but other threads have indicated good results.
This thread is on printed decals, but it has good points.

The Decal Bonder is good stuff! Only thing is you'll have to cut the paper close to the decals since the bonder will create a film around everything on the sheet.
In a pinch you can use plain GlossCote or another brand of clear coat as well. Doesn't work quite as well but it does work.
