Star Trek 50th Anniversary Group Build
Posted by Beans on Thursday, June 30, 2016 10:46 AM

I know there are Trek fans in here. I think we should start planning.

"The Man Trap" first aired September 8, 1966. I propose we start the Star Trek 50th Aniversary Group Build on September 8, 2016.

If we start planning now we'll be ready to launch on September 8, 2016 (Stardate: -307666.66).

Here's my suggested badge...

Star Trek Group Build

We have a couple of months to complete our current summer build projects, clear our workbenches and pick our Trek builds for the 50th anniversary. No excuses.

Let's get epic.

I like the year long run,   not sure if I'm in yet, I'll have to look at the stash and see what I've got!  Can it be from any of the series or just the original?

Don't sweat it John, jump in when you can. We got a couple of months 'till we pull the trigger.

I would say any series run and any movie. Your choice. I figure we keep it loose and fun. I mean, we're celebrating 50 years, right?

We should also make it a place to share all things Trek (i.e. memories, past builds, collectables, anything Trek).

Keep it alive and keep it real.

Spread the word, join the collective.

I'm very interested, but, I have a few other GB to complete first, before I commit. I have 1/350 refit Enterprise that my son has been bugging me to dig out. Biggest question will be to light or not to light...

Sounds like fun! I think I have a few trek models in my stash. Been thinking about building the old Reliant kit.

I have PLENTY of Trek in my stash. Every thing from the 1/1000 TOS Romulan to a '80 Marco TOS Tric.

Nah, I'm a Yank but I do have some Union Jack and Rampant Lion coursing through my veins.

I can tolerate boiled beef only if I wash it down with some Belhaven. Go figure...

Here's my band two weeks ago...

I'm the snare drummer on the left.

Anyway...back to all things Trek.

I'll set up a post in the Group Build forum with all the particulars when we get closer to the launch date.

Does anyone have any suggestions for guidelines/rules?

Who wants to co-host?

Boiled beef, o no. Theres only one way to do a good beef joint, roasted and with Yourkshire puds.

Afraid i am a bit busy to co-host. Got 2 GB's on going and have the Star wars GB at the end of the year.

Sorry Beans, I'm too buried to help ya, but I may be able to jump in with a build later. Nothing definitive yet but I'll keep an eye on the build and see where I'm at some time later.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

I've been looking around some of the other group builds and I can probably use some of their guidlines to start.

Sorry Beans, I've got enough on my hands with my GB, if you need any advice I'll try to help out.

Off the top of my head:

Set a time period, end and start date.

Cross-overs to other GBs yes or no?

Models with previous work done okay or not?

Any restrictions, aka original series only, starships but not figures, etc?

Ye, i would check out a few of them and decide what you like and don't. Running a GB is not that hard. Once it set up, its just a case of posting on peoples work and keeping the roster and completed builds up dated. If it goes slow, then you just have to give it a kick.
