I will be doing something of a base. Due to the shear size of it it won't be too elaborate though. Have some T-800s to go with it so just big enough to fit them in with a bit of ruins or something. Once I settle on the base's colour I will dust up the tracks and lower sections of the tank.

Yep.
Tracks are Testers small bottle flat steel with a wash of Citadel Agrax Earthshade for some patina. Figured that even in the Skynet world of 2029 tank tracks are tank tracks.
Most of body is shiny silver (not bumpy like pictures make it look)with exposed equipment and some panels done in flat steel. Wanted variation but not massive differences.Base

Tcoat Real G I'm not sure if I am remembering correctly, but I thought I had read somewhere that for T1, the HK tank was painted, but for T2 it was vac plated due to the much increased budget. Wouldn't be surprised. I watched both movie openings several times for details and determined that T2 is certainly shinier. Could be lighting though. The good news is that you see small parts, at a distance or so briefly of each that I can detail pretty much however I want and it will be "right".

I have neglected my updates!
Base coat of Tamiya "chrome" silver on all surfaces. It took two full bottles! This will be the actual main colour for things such as the guns, arms and any un armoured parts. The "specs" for these things (you can find anything on the internet) say the body armour was high gloss titanium. I suppose that was too to help deflect the fire from a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.
Hard to see in the picture but there are three different shades here. The Tamiya chrome, old Testers small bottle steel and silver. Then my usual overall wash of tinted Future (I use it on everything) finished off with a light wash of Citadel Nuln Oil shade. Normally I would do an overcoat of flat but this all needs to have at least some shine to it.
Couldn't decide what to do for the main body armour. Didn't want to go with some of the better know mettalizer paints since this is such a large area and they can be delicate at best. Had a little better than half a bottle of Modelmaster chrome and wasn't sure if enough but I got brave and went for it.
With judicious thinning and not getting carried away with the thickness I had plenty to cover where it was needed with enough left over for touchups if (well... WHEN) I need them.It was exactly the finish I was after! Looks like "titanium" without being bumper chrome bright.The gun support is the main body colour. Looks really good just plain.
But really comes to life once weathered!

I always remembered it being chrome as well. Probably the same miniatures were used for both movies but they had a lot more cash for T2 so the lighting and effects were better and you could actually see the shine.
MR TOM SCHRY That's the best thing of building SciFi, there's no wrong color. I was thinking of using Tamiya's dull aluminum and some Uschi metallic powders. Good luck with the build. tjs

Will probably go about as shiny as the T800s in my diorama lttle shineir than the aerial HK.

Haven't decided yet. There are options.
Not that you get a really good look in normal lighting but in the first movie they appear to be just sort of a low gloss steel color.
But by T2 it appears that Skynet found a good detailing shop and they are bright and shiny almost chrome like.
They don't show up in the later movies but all the equipment that does runs between the two finishes so I don't think there is a "right" or "wrong" answer really

I sort of like the chrome look so will probably go with that and just dust up the lower parts.

Ran into decal issues with my latest plane build so
This is the 1/32 Hunter Killer tank from the Terminator 2 movie. As the "real" thing is described as 3 stories tall then even in 1/32 it is MASSIVE.
For anybody not familiar with Pegasus Hobbies kits the first thing that needs to be mentioned is that they are not styrene. The plastic they use is a heavy ABS. This means that some glues just won't work and they recommend Tamiya Extra Thin or Modelmaster liquid only. Of course you can also use super glues. I use the Tamiya and it works great.Of course this subject is modeled after a movie prop and some of the parts seem a bit simplistic when you first look at the. For example the return wheels for the tracks have no sort of suspension to them but are simply little wheels on a stick. The wheels themselves have nice detail but that is about it. This of course is fie with me since once the tracks and side panels are on you won't notice anyway but anybody that really like to go to town could easily do more with these.
The track assemblies are huge of course but they fly together since there actually very few pieces.The pieces there are you get to do 4 times
Pegasus uses a lot of slots and bevels in their design instead of locating pins. This does a good job of hiding most seams and is very strong but some of the bigger sections don't fit perfectly so there will be some filling and sanding. I understand that this can be hit and miss with the molds and was a lesser issue with the first release than this one (this is the 2021 rerelease)
The smaller assemblies fit really nice though
All sub assemblies done just working on seams
And for those that don't know how big these things are here we have a 1/35 Sherman lost in the middle.
