I think it's going to be the predators!

OMG some one please shut this guy up. He's been posting everywhere, just that one stupid phrase, EVERYWHERE!!!!

On topic though, I'd say it'll be predator. I take it I'm not the only one proverbially wetting my pants in anticipation of this movie Smile [:)]

Interesting,

I just hope either franchise doesn't suffer (although ALIEN was getting a little on the long side)

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

As I understand the plot, the Predator Grumpy [|(]race brought the Xenomorphs (Aliens) Alien [alien]
here to play with. They have weaponry which the Alien Alien [alien]
race doesn't use, so have the advantage on two levels. Therefore, my guess goes to the Predators Grumpy [|(]
In the Alien Alien [alien]mythos, however, this story line presents an intersting twist in that it gives backstory as to why the Nostromo in the first ALIEN Alien [alien]
movie would have a sub mission of collecting a Xenomorph Alien [alien]
specimen at all costs. That was always something of a plot weakness for me. How would the Company know to be looking for this specific life form and set that as a parameter of the Nostromo's mission? Question [?]

I'm looking forward to this film with great anticipation. I don't see how they can screw it up, so I'm not worried at all about the franchises "losing" or "suffering."

As long as it's a good punch-up, I'll be happy!

The Nostromo was purposly sent there. Ash was a company replacement put on board to ensure the securment of a specimen. There could have easily been encounters before the first film. Just not on Earth.

This is never made clear. We are given to assume there was some sort of encounter, but with this installment, we get an encounter to open the road to the first movie.

Well, you have to consider that the Predators see mainly in infared while the aliens don't show up on infared. So, that would no longer be an advantage of the predator. Furthermore, the cloaking feature of the Predators may not be effective against the aliens. Then, the Predators from the first two movies were lone hunters. This time around, there's a bunch of them together. The aliens have always tended towards swarms of warriors when they can. It's kinda back to the whole quality vs. quantity debate and quantity does have a quality of its own. Sounds like I'm pushing the case for the aliens, but I still think the Predators will come out on top.

I'd guess a Predator can benchpress a lot more, too. Probably close to a ton, I'd think.

Of course, an Alien couldn't even lay down on the bench in the first place, what with the spines and all. It'd be disqualified right away.

I predict that one human and one predetor will come out alive. And I predict that Charles Weyland is a disembodied brain in a robot body. That I what I guess will happen.

Should be interesting...

It's something that happens every 1000 years. So my guess is that sometimes the Predators win and sometimes the Aliens win??

QUOTE: Storyline
The Predators use Earth for their rituals and every 1000 years, they drop five teenage predators off at a pyramid and they have to fight for their survival. If they survive the battle against the aliens, they earn their "warrior status". The film is set in the present time at the beginning of the 21st century and a group of scientists and archaeologists travel to Antarctica and discover ancient pyramid ruins.

These ruins are deep under the ice surface which were built by the Predators and were formed much earlier than the pyramid ruins in Egypt. When the group reaches one of the pyramids in Antarctica, they discover human skeletons and the fossilized remains of Facehuggers and Chestbursters. They also find out that these aliens might be still alive somewhere in the pyramid ruins but unknown to them, there's also another species of alien exploring there - the Predators.

Their primary field of vision (without the helmet) is infared. In the previews for AVP, not all of the predators were wearing their helmets. Also, anyone notice that in the final seen of Predator 2, there was an alien warrior's skull in the trophy case? I've never played the game before... do the Marines show up on the electrical vision?

Well, some have been. Smile [:)]

I love the first Alien movie. It's a classic gothic horror movie, set in space. The second movie is a fun action pic with more of a brain than most. I didn't especially care for the following two, but putting the Alien franchise in movies with another action movie franchise really does sound the death knell for the Alien movies as a series of serious pictures, IMO. It's a very comic-book fanboyish direction to take the Alien franchise (not that there's anything wrong with that! Laugh [(-D]), which started life with what is arguably one of the greatest movies ever made.

The fact that you can get a movie summary from a video game website really does say a lot about who the movie will be aimed at.

The Predator movie is a fun movie for beer and pretzels, but it's pure professional wrestling stuff -- fine if you like greased muscle male soap opera. For me it's a guilty pleasure. Note though that the movie is a breeding ground for US governors. I wonder when the Predator himself will be made governor, and what state it will be? Better that than Carl Weathers. Whistling [:-^]

Although it doesn't really matter much in the end -- it doesn't look like Alien 5 was going to take off anyway. There were rumors that Ridley Scott was considering making Alien 5 if it ever took off, but I think AvP will more or less assure that it never does. So I think the movie's tagline -- "No Matter Who Wins, We Lose" -- is more accurate than the moviemakers realize.

It's always good to see that Lance Henrikson is getting work though. Tongue [:P]

I agree with you Larry,
And I hope I'm wrong but this could be the death knell for Aliens, as well as Predator.

I think the death knell for Aliens was Alien Resurrection. The plot was just too
far-fetched and unbelieveable. I hated that movie to be honest. Alien 3 is my favorite because it returns to its roots as a gothic horror film, after James Cameroon turned Aliens into an action movie, and the effects are better than the first movie (1978 vs. 1992 technology makes a difference). My 2 cents [2c]

But the original suit was better in sculpt. I just love Giger's handiwork. The miniature work byHunter Gratzner for Resurection was top notch though.

I thought it was interesting that the original creature in Alien was a big, slow-moving (except when striking), lumbering giant (and my favorite sculpt!). Then, in Aliens, they're all kibbles-n-bits, swarming, skittering ants, which carried on through three and four.

Perhaps it was the environment in Alien and the fact that the creature was alone on a confined ship with its prey that led it to act more slowly.
And the fact that nobody was spraying it with pulse rifle fire all the time!

Wait...the creature in Alien 3 was alone, and it was still pretty much kibbles-n-bits...oh well, there goes that theory!

And on the modeling front, I ran across the original MPC Alien kit at an LHS today, for 2,900 yen ($26 USD). What a stuffed-shirt Alien that is!
