Just Finished: Macross VF-OS

I usually post in the Aircraft section, but thought this model belongs here too.

This is a Hasegawa kit I picked up while in Japan. As a fan of Japanimation, and of the Macross series, when I saw it on the store shelf I had to have it. I normally only work in 1/48, but I thought this 1/72 scale kit would be a worthy exception, and it was. It was so fun to do. Hundreds of teeny-tiny decals and the pencilled in panel lines and rivets really make this one fun to look at (for me anyway).

One unfortunate thing that happened was that the canopy ended up fuzzy after gloss coating it. C'est la vie!

I looked around on the web and could not find any photos of the completed model, so maybe there is an "unusual" factor here. I have waiting in the wings another Macross model - the VF-1D Valkyrie. Can't wait to do this one.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers,

Steve

Steve,

Your Valk's a beauty! I've got my VF-0D on pre order and can't wait to get it.

If you really like Valkyries and would like to see other people's work check out:

www.macrossworld.com

Under the Forums section they have a forum dedicated to model kits from Macross. There is some amazing work there. Keep a look out for postings by WM Cheng. Here's a sample of his work:

Wow! Those models do look really good. There is one with a really good weathering job that looked so realistic.

Thanks for the links.

Cheers,

Steve

Pardon my ignorance regarding the nature of these kits, but are they in any way reconfigurable like the old robotech kits from the late 80's?

No, the Hasegawa kits are not transformable like the Revell/Imai kits of the 80's but they are a significant improvement in the sense of detail and fit. The look like real aircraft.

Steve, excellent job!! are these Hasegawa kits new on the market? I tried building a couple of old macross kit a while ago and was very disappointed.

I am very impressed with the VF kits that have been recently posted on the forum. You guys have done a great job. Now i might have to go buy one for myself.Big Smile [:D]

Looks like you go those pesky fin decals to lay down better than I did. Looks great. I'll get pictures of mine soon and post'em.

As a BTB, I'm just curious as to why you painted the wing marker lights both red? Or am I seeing things wrong?
