The next Sci-Fi group build?
Posted by Woody on Friday, November 12, 2004 5:12 AM
Anyone given any thought to the next Sci-Fi group build or group scratchbuild?
In a previous thread it was discussed but I forget which thread it was.

If it is NOT Star Wars or Star Trek based I might be interested. Shy [8)]

In "Next Big Build" we talked about a couple of options. I'm leaning toward one that is based on the ships from the Starfleet Museum. There are two ships for sure I would love to build in there.

I'll be getting a couple of Star Wars models this Christmas. If it's related to that I might join.

If the GB starts after the first of the year, I might be inclined to come up with something. I could careless whether it is Star Wars or Star Trek or any other Sci-Fi series/show/book. I just would like to try a hand at scratch building or kit bashing.

A Starfleet group scratchbuild would be perfect for me. My next big scratchbuild will be an Avenger class from the Starfleet Museum. Approve [^] There isn't any reason we can't have several group builds going at once. Heck I might try a different subject besides ST. I love all Sci-Fi and Matt's SW project has been very inspiring. That would be a great choice. If you get it done in time you could take it and your awesome fighters from the current build to Wonderfest.

Depending how you decide to go with this GB Woody I'll sign up for two. I have all the details worked out for the USS Pyotr Velikiy and have been wanting to build a USS Kestrel or Aryabhatta. It has been great working with the gang on the last one and a wonderful motivator. Besides I can't wait to see more of Dans work!!!

One of my favs would be of course a Votoms Armored Trooper (Red Shoulder, Dog Carrier, etc) or similar.

But bassically anything that is less known and less seen(SF3D, Five Star Stories, Dunbine, Patlabor, Lazyner, etc) would be fine.

Unfortuneately, I have never heard or these. I am not as current with Sci-Fi as I would like.

I am up for anything. Woody, sounds like you are the lead person. When do you think you will start this thing? Begining of New Year or sooner?

Most of those are older Japanese Anime, quick rundown:
Votoms is a Sunrise anime featuring Armored Troopers

Quiet a variety of designs

SF3D currently known as Maschienen Krieger

Five Star Stories has robots like these controlled by artifical women.

Aura Battler Dunbine has insect like Robots in an alternate universe

Patlabor features tall Police Robots fighting against rogue robots

Lazyner has also some interesting designs(my son will be building his 3rd kit from this series soon).
Sorry, no pic handy.

I'm all for a mecha build!

I'm a huge FSS and Dunbine mecha fan! (I'm currently working on the old 80s Zwarth kit... Making it look better as best I can ) Though I really would love to work on my 1/35 Sirbine.... I just still need a replacement sword for him -__- (Got off of e-bay without sword and wings... Fixed the wing problem, dunno how to really make his sword... ) I can supply a ton of Dunbine images, too... been collecting them I'll post some in a sec

Ok, here we go, a small sample of the resin kits: (all images found at Yahoo! Japan Auctions )

Wish this one wasn't so blurry... Looks like a nice kit

Kinda ugly, but it looks 100x better than the old 80s kit

Nother Dunbine, not sure which kit it is...

The Leprichaun, cool design, not as loved as the others I think

And of course, the Zwarth

I'd post a post for FSS mecha, but you'd be here for a while reading it!

To get an idea, hobbyfan.com has a good list of them, as does e2046.com

Oh, Model Museaum: I don't believe all the fatimas (artificial women ) were all female.... I THINK there were some male ones as well.... Need to look it up, though all the well known ones are female

Haven't really seen the series, so my info is a bit sketchy.
AFAIK, they work in a pair with some males to control the robots.

FYI, In the last few years a few of the older Resin Fatimas were re-issued.

I believe there are three Sci-Fi GBs starting after the first of the year(?).
1). A Starfleet Museum build.
2). An assault ship / ground viehicle build
3). A "found item" GB
I'm not the lead person on any of these builds but I'm considering the possiblity of joining a couple if not all three. I'll join the Starfleet Museum for sure but I'll have to see about the other two. They will all be fun, that's for sure.Wink [;)]

I've seen them, might be one or two I'll build in the future, though I want a kit of AnM! When I get home later, I'll try to find the issue that shows all the Fatimas.... I know one of them does.... (Er, according to my memory ^__^; )

It could be just about anything you might find around the house such as one or more of those AOL CDs we love to get in the mail or plastic silverware just to name a couple. I know your not going to believe it but I even heard of one fellow who incorpoerated a camera into his build! Tongue [:P]Wink [;)]

Will with all the tips and advise you gave us I wouldn't feel to bad there. Besides when you decide to make a master out of a project it some what changes the time line.Big Smile [:D] And I am sure the end result will be will worth the wait. I know I can't wait. Can't wait to start some work on a Museum build for that matter. I'm so darn impatient.Tongue [:P] My vote is for Woody!Big Smile [:D]

I asked Masao if we could use his logo from the Starfleet Museum. He said sure. Who's in and when should this thing end? I'm thinking mid May?

Sorry for the long delay in replying. I just switched from dial-up to DSL and it took me a little bit to get it set up. I should have kept my old ISP until I had the DSL up and running.Tongue [:P] When do you want to start and end this puppy? I'm thinking Jan. 1st-May 20-ish?

I'd love to join in, but I'm not sure I'll have the time. I've never painted the Ranger and I've started a small new project:
