                        Well there are only a few of us on this one. I was waiting to see how many were interested in the build before we started it and it looks like four including myself. I'll be making a dedicated thread for the build and hopefully that will drum up some more bodies. Wink [;)]

                        Yeah, Balsafoam is expensive but great stuff.

                        I use it quiet a bit for Diorama and to make masters for molds, etc.
                        The stuff is best sealed with resin after you are finished carving your parts out of it.

                        I was thinking about that or even going to a craft store and get those styrofoam balls and try making a mold for them. I was also thinking about trying that BalsaFoam material. A little expensive so I am not sure. I need to sit back one of these weekends and just do some brain storming. WOW, I feel like I am back in college with some of those pre-engineering course where they teach you the brain storming effects. That was a long time ago, atleast for me it is (13 years).

                        Well, I have been looking at some of the more easy ones on the Starfleet Museum website and there are some that look fairly easy except for the they all have these complex curves or perfect circular hulls. I am not sure excatly which one to pick but with the week I should have narrowed it down to two or three. It all depends if I can figure out how to shape the smooth arc/circular hulls easily without specialized equipment.

                        I feel the only requirment for this build is that you pick a subject from the Museum and try to reproduce it as faithfully as you feel comfortable with. I'll be making a post in a few days about this build. I'll do like I did last time and post project picks so folks can see what our desired goals are.Wink [;)]

                        Well with all this support how can I refuse to get involved with this group build. Now all builds will be coming from the Star Fleet Museum, correct? Just to let everyone now, I do not have any fancy building equipment like a lathe or milling machine so I will be using good old fashion engineering on this. What are the actual requirements for this build like, what kind of modifications can be made from the existing pics on the Starfleet Museum website, etc. I am actually excited. I have seen your progress on the last one Woody and also yours Matt. I feel I am in capable hands with the help I will be requiring. Now time is a big battle since I have plans to start a model railroad in the basement and a batmobile on bench I was trying to finish before the new year (aint gonna happen). COUNT ME IN FELLOWS!!!

                        What Matt said.Wink [;)] I'll help you work through any construction problems I can. I find that the best way, for me anyway, to tackle a scratchbuilding project is to dive in and go for it. I would also suggest that you break down a potential project into it's basic shapes. Looking at a project as a whole and trying to build the whole thing at once can be very intimidating. Please feel free to ask more specific question and I'll be glad to help.

                        Hey Scott, I think there might be a couple of carriers or transports that shouldn't be to bad for a first scratch project. And as always if you need some help putting the project into a plan I would be happy to help there, feel free to e-mail with any questions. I sure am looking forward to this build and it would be great to see your work.

                        The shape is from a skateboard handheld game from earlier in the year. The group out right now is yeilding no interesting shapes. Its coming along nicely and Chris Lynch(Ravnenstar Studios) is kindly donating some warp engines for the project.
                        The other two projects are to painting phase, where I always stall out. I might have to farm out the painting of the carrier to one of the 2500th gurus(Jason Caldwell), if he agrees.
                        I'd like to join the museum build, I like the Kestrel. I'll see if I have time. Hope you and your family had a nice Christmas.

                        Steve that is an interesting looking project. Is that a Spy Kids toy? I hope to see your finished Ranger and Carrier in the future. Those are two of the projects on various boards I'm following with great anticipation. I'm also crossing my fingers you will be able to join the Starfleet Museum build.

                        Its a 2500th scale "fast attack cruiser" made from a McDonald's Happy Meal electronic toy(saucer section) and sheet styrene.

                        Sorry for the long delay in replying. I just switched from dial-up to DSL and it took me a little bit to get it set up. I should have kept my old ISP until I had the DSL up and running.Tongue [:P] When do you want to start and end this puppy? I'm thinking Jan. 1st-May 20-ish?

                        I've seen them, might be one or two I'll build in the future, though I want a kit of AnM! When I get home later, I'll try to find the issue that shows all the Fatimas.... I know one of them does.... (Er, according to my memory ^__^; )

                        I believe there are three Sci-Fi GBs starting after the first of the year(?).
                        1). A Starfleet Museum build.
                        2). An assault ship / ground viehicle build
                        3). A "found item" GB
                        I'm not the lead person on any of these builds but I'm considering the possiblity of joining a couple if not all three. I'll join the Starfleet Museum for sure but I'll have to see about the other two. They will all be fun, that's for sure.Wink [;)]

                        I'd post a post for FSS mecha, but you'd be here for a while reading it!

                        To get an idea, hobbyfan.com has a good list of them, as does e2046.com

                        Oh, Model Museaum: I don't believe all the fatimas (artificial women ) were all female.... I THINK there were some male ones as well.... Need to look it up, though all the well known ones are female

                        I'm a huge FSS and Dunbine mecha fan! (I'm currently working on the old 80s Zwarth kit... Making it look better as best I can ) Though I really would love to work on my 1/35 Sirbine.... I just still need a replacement sword for him -__- (Got off of e-bay without sword and wings... Fixed the wing problem, dunno how to really make his sword... ) I can supply a ton of Dunbine images, too... been collecting them I'll post some in a sec
