I just watched the new shows of Battlestar Galactica tonight. Just wondering what everyone thinks?

I thought "33" and "Water" were both great episodes - particularly "33". Great acting, outstanding special effects, and a very good set of story lines. I have no idea where the series is going...and I like that. I think this first year is going to be loaded with surprises.

I watched it when the first ran it several months ago.

I was a little annoyed by the gender swapping, but I thought it was still pretty good.

I thought it was great! The special effects were very good. This is one I could definitely get into. It was funny because I started watching it again when they replayed it and almost watched half of '33' again.

Don't forget to check out the website.

What can I say. Those episodes were simply awesome! Cool [8D]Thumbs Up [tup]
I could watch Viper / Raider dogfights all day! The reaction jets are too cool. Those old MK.II are super agile if nothing else.

All I can say is WOW!
As a huge fan of the original series (I was 6 when it aired) I was really not happy with the preliminary reports of the miniseries. I heard Starbuck was a woman and wrote it off right there. After the miniseries aired, I heard from several friends how good it was, but remained unconvinced. Most of them weren't even born when the original series aired, and didn't have the childhood memories that I did.

Well, I finally wised up and watched the miniseries and not only was impressed, but I'm downright addicted! Last night's episodes were fantastic! I especially appreciate how they've incorporated elements of the original series into the new. And of course, I can't wait to see what Richard Hatch does next week and if he'll be a regular cast member.

Too cool!

What did you all think about the Cylons? I loved the way they flipped out their guns. Pretty sweet. Smile [:)]

I still haven't been able to catch the entire mini-series even though they have been playing it quite a bit since it originally aired. Thinking about picking up the DVD now. They have the old series on DVD too.

I was only 5 when the original series aired, although I've probably seen an episode here and there since then. For those who had watched the old series, is the new series really different from it? Were the Cylons that looked like humans in the old one or is this completely new?

David,

Yeah, its completely new! The only cylon that looked anything human was Exeter, Baltar's right hand...ahem.. man. I loved how they had one of the original series Cylons in the museum exhibit. Too cool!

Exeter?

I thought its name was Lucifer.
And it was voiced by Jonathan Harris - "Never fear! Smith is here."

David, I'd say getting the miniseries on DVD is probably worth it if you haven't seen the whole thing. A lot of the new series is character-driven and the miniseries gives a good first-glimpse and some definition to the characters.
I don't think the original series had any human-looking cylons.

They are completely different. The original Cylons weren't robots created by humankind. I think most people think they were but they were actually a reptilian race.

There were in one of the movies (at least one android), he (it) crashed with a centurion near New York on Haloween, together they located Wolfman Jack to use his transmitter.

I also was a fan of the original (was in college and about the whole dorm used to pack the TV room for it).
While I liked the special effects and the stories were pretty good, I had a few problems with 'Water'. I finally figured out Boomer was all wet when she discoverd the charge in her bag meaning she was the one to set them but is unaware of it? But what was the purpose of the charge in the Raptor?
Other than that, very interested in how it plays out and now want someone to release some new models.

I don't know if I can explain it well enough, but from what I understood is that each of the human looking Cylons are different. The memories may be so real that they don't realize they are Cylon until they're activated or they might actually like being human. I'm not quite sure.

I believe that Boomer(in Cylon mode) placed the charge in the Raptor to be set off so the Galactica wouldn't find the water they need. There is a conflict in Boomer because she is loyal to the Colonies but is starting to realize that something is horribly wrong. Does she know she is a Cylon? I think she is in denial. The next episodes promise to be very interesting.

In the Lowdown program, immediately before the first two episodes aired, there were a couple of references to the Cylons making the 12 human models a "bit too human". We saw that a little with #6 in the mini-series and now we're seeing it more with Boomer.

Let's see, so far we have:
1) #6
2) Boomer
3) The Reporter
4) The Stow-away on Ragnar
5 - 12) ???

OOooooo, is this going to be great!!!

I thought they were made into pairs. Two of each model. Six models, twelve total.

Nope,

12 models (From both #6 and the note at the end of the mini-series)

Number of each...unlimited???

There were at least five #6 models in the mini-series and there's been two or three so far in the series.

Does anyone have the miniseries on DVD? I've been looking for it here, but can't find it anywhere. Gonna try best buy again today, but no one seems to have it.

Most of the "New Release" sales on the DVD are done and it may be cheaper online now. I seen it in several online sites and I got mine the day before it was in stores by pre-ordering from Amazon.com.

I have the mini-series on DVD and yes, I have AVI's of the series as we do not have the show yet in Australia.

My wife remains a little wary of the show as we love the original TV series (I was 13 when the show first aired - we have it on DVD also) but I think I have convinced her that she has to treat it as a completely different "take" on the BSG saga. I showed her the attack on the cylon refinery (ep 10?) and she was nost impressed!

Oh, SG:Atlantis is another excellent show, we are re-watching the series to date with our 14 and 17 year old daughters and they are loving it as much as we do!!

Seems a good year for SF on TV!

cheers

Mike

I picked up the miniseries on DVD last week at WalMart in SoCal. You can get it from Deepdiscountdvd.com for $20.40 and free shipping. I too was a fan of the original series, but the new one is just awesome. There is more character development in the first 30 min of the miniseries than in the whole run of the original. I am really hooked on the new incarnation. Richard Hatch will be playing a recurring character, but not a regular on the series. I guess he was trying to revive the series on his own as a continuation of the original series and there was a huge dispute with SciFi channel about it, but he seems to have come to terms with it and is pleased with what they are doing. The website at scifi channel is great and has an article from Richard Hatch. I hope they do some model kits from the seried.
