I was lukewarm when the new miniseries aired but after watching all the episodes back to back on the scifi channel last weekend, I have started liking the new series. I hope somebody (please let it be FineMolds!!) puts out some models from the new BSG series. I would like to see a Raptor, Cylon Raider and some regular Cylon infantry.

Excellent show. I hope it lasts as long as stargate has.

Caught this topic a bit late, but if you want to understand the new Cylons, 1-12, read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick (Blade Runner). It addresses the issue of sentience (SP?) and self awareness in an android. The similarities are fairly striking. In BR, the androids are virtually undetectable biologically (it is assumed) and the only means of detection is psychological. I think the Cylons are the same for the most part except those preprogrammed for a specific mission, such as #6 and the stowaway/prospector.

As to Starbuck being too manly, you only have to take a look at some career military females. They really have trouble surviving and advancing professionally in that male dominated world without adapting and becoming one of the boys. COL TIgh is probably that officer who's peaked career-wise and is fairly burnt out and ready for retirement; but has the skills and knowledge needed for the accomplishment of the mission.

All in all, it promises to be a great series, no silly story lines like gunfight at the OK Corral in space, with strong independent characters who don't always like or respect each other. I particularly like the lack of sound in space, coupled with Black Hawk Down-like music, heavy on the percussion, setting what I think is the proper martial tone for the battle sequences. Makes it a little more serious.

Just had to toss in my $.02 worth

The best ratings for Sci-Fi channel happened with the premier of Stargate Atlantis. That drew in 3.2 million viewers I believe. The Atlantis show costs about half to two-thirds of Farscape.

The issue with Farscape wasn't the ratings as much as it was the cost and it's inability to grab new viewers in it's fourth year. I love the show, and own all of it on DVD. But you could see it was being made like it were a motion picture. Very high standards for production were being used.

Sci-fi had to get finacial help from Sky One in England to get the Nu Galactica produced.

Well I cannot beleive that Farscape did not have the ratings. I guess I donot understand the whole ratings system or how it is administered. It just seems like alot of politics to me. Anyway what is NBS? I don't have that channel I don't think.

Farscape just could not muster a large enough audience to get leverage for themselves. Sci-Fi's cancellation of it soured me greatly on the Network but I could see the ratings were not in Farscape's favor. And I just could not get into the Stargate series. Hoepfully BG will be a break out show for the Network. I was stunned to see NBS air a 3 hour version of the mini series. a couple of weeks ago. Has anyone heard any ratings news?

I like the series so far, but am not optimistic as far as sci-fi channel goes. There treatment of Farscape makes me a bit warry but we will see. Tonights episode was good and Hatches performance was above par. I am glad to see less camera jiggling and more "normal" shots, as it is easier for me to watch.
As for a good year for sci-fi I am glad that people can watch the Stargate shows they seem to have a great many fans. I for one was not "grabbed" in the beginning so I am not enthused about them now. Anyway I think that it was deffinetly time for a new sci-fi series and am glad galactica was chosen, although the changes are hard to get used to. I think the actors are still feeling their way into the roles, so I am waiting to see this unfold as well. One last thing, I hope the president lives and is reellected in seven months. She is the best acted character so farr on the series.

I really enjoyed tonight's episode. I thought Richard Hatch's performance was excellent. I thought Colonel Tigh comes across as just a bit too crusty though.

Oh course the garage industry is gearing up nto the challenge. Alfred Wong has been commissioned to do a 1/48 MK.2 Viper and a 1/24 MK.5 is also on the horizon. Take a look at this 1/24 scale MK.2 [:0] http://rpf.prop-planet.com/viewtopic.php?topic=61395&forum=3

I to have a hard time getting used to the "gender swapping". My main problem with it is that the female characters like Starbuck are usually too manly. I would like to see a woman in the role that plays it as an in-charge kind of person but still a woman. I think the best in-charge female character that still knew what gender she was was in the movie "Red Planet". I thought the commander, I think her name was Carrie Moss, did a very good job not being too manly of an in-charge female character. That is just my opinion though...feel free to disagree! Big Smile [:D]

Regardless, I do like the show.

To Polar Lights I would add AMT/Ertl & Esci unless those improved greatly in quality too.

FM is also only a 6 man operation. Wave has great engineering.

Anybody but Polar Lights. Their kits are too soft in detail and take forever to get tooled right. Even Monogram could do great if they applied the care that they put into their pro modeler line.

The reason why FM took so long to do it, because they needed to have every little detail and change approved by Lucas himself (from what I hear).

Wave would still be a good option though.

I vote for Fine Molds or Wave.

Fine Molds because their Star Wars kits are top-notch.
Wave because they would make a decent sized kit that is well detailed and a pleasure to build, while still affordable.

I don't think the original series had any human-looking cylons.

Dave

There were in one of the movies (at least one android), he (it) crashed with a centurion near New York on Haloween, together they located Wolfman Jack to use his transmitter.
the human cylons were origanily in galatica 1980 not the first series the episode was titled the night the cylons landed it was a 2 part episode

I really enjoyed the series. The realistic Zero Gravity effects in the dogfights is really well done. I always got frustrated about that in other series... BSG really makes it work. I also love the documentary style "shaky cam"... good stuff.

I picked up the miniseries on DVD last week at WalMart in SoCal. You can get it from Deepdiscountdvd.com for $20.40 and free shipping. I too was a fan of the original series, but the new one is just awesome. There is more character development in the first 30 min of the miniseries than in the whole run of the original. I am really hooked on the new incarnation. Richard Hatch will be playing a recurring character, but not a regular on the series. I guess he was trying to revive the series on his own as a continuation of the original series and there was a huge dispute with SciFi channel about it, but he seems to have come to terms with it and is pleased with what they are doing. The website at scifi channel is great and has an article from Richard Hatch. I hope they do some model kits from the seried.

I have the mini-series on DVD and yes, I have AVI's of the series as we do not have the show yet in Australia.

My wife remains a little wary of the show as we love the original TV series (I was 13 when the show first aired - we have it on DVD also) but I think I have convinced her that she has to treat it as a completely different "take" on the BSG saga. I showed her the attack on the cylon refinery (ep 10?) and she was nost impressed!

Oh, SG:Atlantis is another excellent show, we are re-watching the series to date with our 14 and 17 year old daughters and they are loving it as much as we do!!

Seems a good year for SF on TV!

cheers

Most of the "New Release" sales on the DVD are done and it may be cheaper online now. I seen it in several online sites and I got mine the day before it was in stores by pre-ordering from Amazon.com.

Nope,

12 models (From both #6 and the note at the end of the mini-series)

Number of each...unlimited???

There were at least five #6 models in the mini-series and there's been two or three so far in the series.
