Update pics of the 1/350 Refit!
Posted by Chris_in_Japan on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 9:19 AM
Ok guys.. I posted a while ago about how I had to put the refit back into dry dock in order to correct the bad seams and the like..

Well, I completely re-puttied and sanded, and even re-scribed different areas to make it look as fluid and beautifull as I could!.. I even re-painted my upper secondary hull and pylons as I wasnt even happy with the colours I had originally chosen...

Well, all went well, I had done what I had set out to achieve, and was on the final coat of of one of my colours while doing the panelling for the secondary hull... It was a nice sunny day here in Japan about 2 days ago, so I finished my spray and decided to let my model dry in the sun.. As happens here in Japan when you live surrounded by mountains, a sudden gush of wind came out of no-where and blew my refit off its drying stand.. It fell a good 1.5m.. When I heard the crash, i thought. Oh no, there goes all my good work.. But when I went outside, it was still in one piece.. So after further inspection. I noticed that every seem that I had re-done on the left side and the centre of the secondary hull had cracked.. All that work and paint for nothing.. Luckily the right side, and display side was ok for display, so I have gone ahead without repair.. so here she is... I have also redone some colours from my original pictures. Hope you like.. She is still not finished...

Oh yeah. ps.. forgive the mess!..

Thanks Jeff.. Yes, I was sitting inside when I heard the crash.. And my heart skipped a beat.. But all is well.. I just wont be showing the left side any time soon, although it isnt bad, just seams that you can see.. The rest is fine, paint and all... Thanks balta for your comments also!

Here are a few newer pics with most of the major parts put together.. What you cant see in these pics, is the sticky tape holding the saucer to the neck.. I am still deciding how I will go about joining it...You will also notice that there are few pieces missing, they are still being finished..

Absolutely majestic! Chris, you said you weren't happy with the colors. Which ones were they and what did you change over to?

Thanks Jack.. I didnt realise that I was making a new thread, and so this one has taken on a life all its own.. But if you go over to my original thread here
http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=42858 , you will see what I started with, and then if you compare to the pics in this thread you will see how I re-did the paint..

Nice work Chris!!

I reckon a nice chrome yellow and chrome silver Naboo Star fighter would look rather neat orbiting that monster!

cheers

Here she is still with a little detail left to do, set up in my entry.. J-Hulk will understand, but to the others. In Japan we all have a lowered entry in-which we must take off our shoes.. The large cabinet that my Enterprise is sitting on, is indeed a shoe cabinet.. I wanted to put it here to greet everyone when they walk in the door!

Well, my wife told me it couldnt stay in the entry.. SO I have put her above my computer desk. And I have done a display with all my Furuta Starships named Enterprise, with the crown jewel looking over them! Starting with the NX-01, all the way to the E-E....

Your work has inspired me to take on this behemoth of a kit. I still don't know where I'm going to put it when I'm finished.. I'm going to dig out my old SFAM 4 by Paul Newitt for the detailing & taping. Great photos & set up, by the way. :)
