BSG Inspired AgroShip
Posted by Griffworks on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 9:47 PM
So, I've been wanting to do some modeling for a while now - some scratchbuild modeling. I've had an idea for a BSG AgroShip bouncing around in my head for some time now and finally made myself start on that project this last week. These last two days is when I seem to have made the most progress - interestingly enough while under the pain-relieving care of a narcotic known as Percocet!

Anyhow, here you go: Kitbashed BSG AgroShip. While not exactly my best work, far from my worst. My main issue has to do with my usual symmetry problems. Oh, well. There's always the next one to get it that much more right. :)

So, whattaya think? Question [?]

When I was a kid in 5th grade, BSG (original) was on the air. I made drawings of space fleets that year and I just thought the agro-ships were really cool. I hope you post pics when you finish it.

Yessir, I too was in the 5th grade that year. Those were some good times, man. Never found a Monogram kit at that time for the battlestar, but eventually got my hands on one that a friend had built and traded to me for... something. I don't remember what it was, tho. Still have that basestar, too.

BTW, thanks for the kind words, fellas. Appreciate it.

What was the first "agro ship" in sci-fi movies or television?

What came first? BSG, or Silent Running? I think I am one of the few who actually really enjoyed Silent Running. Oh - and for those who don't know, it has absolutely nothing to do with submarines.

I have no clue. I'm pretty certain that "Silent Running" was the first movie dedicated to showcasing an agroship, tho.

Easy - "Silent Running". The footage from the beginning of "The Magnificent Warriors" (which I just watched last night!) was from SR, just reversed - we see the three ships from the scene in SR where they're going from the left to the right of our screens, but in "Warriors" they were going right to left. They even inserted Raiders and Vipers in to stock footage from SR, as a matter of fact.

I enjoyed it enough to have ordered it a couple months back from Amazon.com and watched it twice since receiving it. It's a good movie, IMNSHO. Sure, it's about the environment from a time when "hippies" were all outraged over how mankind was treating the forests and dumping pollution into the atmosphere, so is a sort of "tree hugger" flick, but the message is pretty reasonable, IMNSHO, the characters - such as we see - are believable and it has one of the biggest studio models ever created. What's not to like?
