Delta Flyer
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, January 4, 2007 1:44 PM

Hello there,

I usually build airplanes but I want to surprise my wife, a Star Trek Voyager fan, by giving her a Delta Flyer.

I searched the web and found one but it was very expensive. Does any of you Modelling Trekkies have any suggestions (preferably a larger scale)? Alternatively, any models of the Voyager itself.

Thanks in advance (also on behalf of my wife)!

I think Monogram did a Voyager. There was a larger one by itself and a smaller one in a set with the Maquis Raider and a Kazon Ship, if I recall.  I'm a Trekkie myself with a soft spot for Janeway and the gang.

Federation Models has a 1/72 scale DF, made by Alliance. Its on sale right now. They also make a tiny 1/1400 scale one too.

Thanks for the info!

cassibill, do you happen to know if the Monogram Voyager is still being produced or do have to look at the second hand stuff?

StevenQ, the DF you refer to is the one that is soo expensive, 75$ (reduced price) for a 1/72 scale model......and if yuu have critical look there aren't that much part either (read too simple build). I love my wife and I really like to surprise her but if she find out it was that expensive she'll most likely give me more then "the eye" or "the look".....

Is there another DF available outside the one by Alliance.....

If you wre going to pay $75, then you are probably better off going with the Bandai Voyager that is pre-painted and comes with lighting.. All you have to do is put it together, and wha-la.. As I am in Japan, I may be able to find one for you cheaper than that!

Hi Chris, it's the Delta Flyer that costs 75US$. Thanks for your tip on the Bandai Voyager but I am not looking for an easy build though but again, thanks for the info.

You could try finding one of the Hallmark ornaments on Evilbay. It was pretty nice actually and you may be able to find one cheaper and no work to be done on it.

Well...

you could scratchbuild one, like I have started, but not completed.  Though this is not very realistic for the time frame you state.  The main fuselage & wings, is, for a scratchbuild, IMNHO are a medium difficulty to construct.  But the details, e.g. the Borg technology indents, the 'canopy', and the impulse drives, are just brutually hard to duplicate.  I was making great progress on my effort until I switched over from major construction to completing the details.

However, you could at least, build a card model.  Here's a link to the only card model (aka paper model) of the Delta Flyer that I know of.

If this link doesn't work, its fairly easy to find, just google 'Delta Flyer card model'.

But something that might be more substantial, is to take the card model, and use it as a template to cut out pieces of sheet styrene, I recommend 20 thou sheet.  Several modelers do this, with some amount of success.  This would speed up your construction, though the final finish will probably be somewhat challenging.  Hope this helps.

There are 2 versions of the Mongram Voyager.  The orignal and the Ltd. Edition.  The Ltd. Edition comes with a fantastic set of decals from Thoms Models and complete painting and assembly instructions by Thomas himself.  Troll ebay and you can find both kits but keep in mind they are both pretty rare and wind up going for $50-$100.  I got lucky and got the LTD edition half assembled for $30.  The trick is to keep watching Ebay everyday especially new Buy it Now listings.

I've got an extra basic Voyager kit that is built and painted but needs work and if you'd like to buy it off of me to strip it let me know, I'll give you a good deal on it.

Sorry I took so long in replying.  I look at the forum at work and at home, I managed to miss the last posting.  If you went to the home, page, of Ninjatoes site, you would find that he used stuff it expander to archive his card models.  He conveniently included a link which I am copying here:

 Good luck.
