Moebius Voyager *PICS*
Posted by Aaron Skinner on Friday, May 9, 2008 3:39 PM

Here's Moebius' repop of Aurora's Voyager from the cartoon Fantastic Voyage. It was a fun and challenging build. There aren't many parts but the fit needs refinement in several places. Nothing putty and super glue can't fix. And I love gloss white paint scheme; so easy to apply.

Enjoy. Comments and criticisms always appreciated.

Cheers,

Man, I bet that was a bear to sand and fill. That's the thing about gloss white finishes, no way to hide the mistakes, you just gotta clean 'em up. Looks like you nailed it tho'.

Have any closeups of the cockpit?

Very nice!  I've never seen an episode of the cartoon, tho have watched the movie many times.  Echoing what Cosmic J said, I think you nailed it w/regards to getting a nice, clean set of lines.

Excellent work, Aaron. Thumbs Up [tup]

Cosmic J and Griff,

Thanks for the comments. There is a certain amount of filler involved, but the ships clean lines make it easy to avoid messing up engraved panel lines, etc.

Here's a close-up of the cockpit:

Hey, check that out. That's much nicer than I anticipated. The cockpit and turret moldings have some pretty good detail in there. Good paint job too.

Thanks - JC

Yeah, it's not too bad especially for a kit from a cartoon show. All-in-all a very enjoyable build. Next up I might tackle the Polar Lights Spindrift.

That looks great. I built one without paint for a short review article. This makes me want to do another "for real," maybe with lights and fiber optics.

Thanks. Yeah, lights, etc., would be great. You could probably see the fourth crew member back in the depths of the cabin with a couple of grain of wheat ot LEDs inside. What's nice about this one is you can pretty much have at it creatively. How about some aztec paneling to break up the surface, scratchbuilt  landing gear, etc?

Very nice, I like the detail in the cockpit.  The only thing I can say for improvement would be best shown in this pic

On the vent behind the cockpit, the inner edge looks like it could use some find sanding to get it smooth and not jagged

Yeah, that was one of the worst areas. The edge of the vents was pretty thin, with an undercut behind, so it was easily damaged while I sanded out the floor of the intake that needed a lot of filler to blend completely.
