Those wanting to build this fine ship (as I am ) may be interested that Eduard has come out with 3 PE sets of armarment, deck housing and railings. They are not cheap though! Each is about $45.

And for a great novel about the flower class corvettes, nothing beats "the Cruel Sea" by Nicholas Monsarrat.

Hey Rob, It's funny you should mention the photo etch, I saw it the other day and thought it was expensive. I think I'm kind of far to swap over nor do I think Tim would want to spring that much for it, it's over twice the price of the kit! I'm enjoying the build so far and have the aft section almost wrapped up. Pics should be up soon. Kyle

Hi Guys, Sunday and Monday, Kyle sent me two updates. But, I couldn’t post them because I was switching to a new computer and the old one and my external hard-drive were being broken down and packed up to be brought up to the Cape yesterday. Once I got everything set-up, I saved Kyle’s photos to my external hard-drive so I could upload them to imgur. Here’s what he said: “The smokestack got painted and had the vents glued on and is baiting to be attached to the deck. I got some storage boxes and the rope pulleys painted and glued on. I did the railings for the upper deck and tonight I'll be painting the blue on the ladders that go to 2 pounder and lead to the front deck. A little more work done, ladders going to the fore deck and Pom Pom are on. The smokestack and cap are now permanently attached. I assembled the cabin area but it isn't attached because I still have to fill the seam, paint it white and put the windows in.” Here are some photos: Tim

Kyle sent me an update last night, this is what he said: “Hey Tim sorry for the lack of progress but work had been really kicking my butt. I did a little last night, I got the spotlights, guns and Pom Pom glued in. I also got the front railing section on the upper deck. Temporarily on hold until I can get to Hobby Lobby for some more primer. Here are two photos: Tim

Kyle sent me an update this morning. This is what he said; “Managed to get some time this weekend the front half is starting to look busy. I have another run of white parts to do. The finish line is in sight though still a ways away. Once I get all the parts on I'll start scratch building the nest on the mast and above the Pom Pom. I found out the threads in the finials are 1/4-28. I got a bolt I can use to turn the end down and I plan to shorten them by a 1/4".” Here are some photos: Tim

Over the weekend and yesterday, Kyle sent an update; this is what he said, “The brass pedestals got the end turned down and threaded 10-24 to match the threaded holes in the hull. They were then shortened approximately 3/16". I also painted and attached the port and starboard lights. I have one more run of white and primer left to do, but it really feels like I'm in the home stretch now.” He also started my Merit 1:35 Soviet G-5 MTB. Whereas the SAUCY build is basically an OOB build but with a different name, the G-5 is strictly an OOB build, right down to using the kit’s decals. Here are some photos: Tim

Well that's embarrassing! It's been one of those days, they are held in with flat acrylic paint so I should be able to pop them out and flip them over.

Thank you for pointing that out.

Kyle sent me update regarding my USS SAUCY today, and here is what he said, “Well, here are the decals in the Saucy. Not as easy I thought to print decals, they do have a tinge of blue and you can see the white background from printing but I think they'll do. Everything received a coat of flat clear to unify the finish. Up next will be the scratch build parts and rigging.” Here are some pictures: Tim

Kyle sent me an update on my USS SAUCY today, this is what he said; “Some details added, anchors are on, oars and masts for the boats, and the flag staffs on the bow and stern. I also have fixed the rockets, I'll have to touch up where they were glued in. Next up will be the railing post and replacing the gun shield which broke off during the decal repair.” Here are six photos: Tim

Earlier today, Kyle sent me another update on my USS SAUCY, PG-65. This is what he said, “I went to paint the kit supplied anchor chain only to find that it was fragile and was already broken in a few places. I went to hobby lobby and got the smallest chain necklace I could find and used that as anchor chain. I also picked up some silver sewing thread to use for railing cables. I'm hoping today to remake the decals, get some work done on the bases and start some scratch building.” He also said that he’ll deliver both, the SAUCY and my G-5 MTB next Sunday. Here are the photos he sent today: Tim

Kyle just sent me an update, and this is what he said, “Some progress photos. The mast and ladder went on as well as the spotlight platform. I built the spotlights from styrene, they'll get painted white, black for the lens side and a drop of clear glue to simulate curved glass. Tonight, I plan to respray the flat clear, mount it on the base and start working on signal flags.” Here are some photos: Tim

Kyle sent me an update on my USS SAUCY overnight, and here is what he said, “Saucy got a second round of flat clear and was mounted to the base. Here is a test print of the signal flags. The printer is making them too pink, so I will resort to painting the excess fabric from the flags you sent me. I did a test last night and I'm pleased with the results. The clear cover over the radar went on and the guns are in place. Tonight, I will be doing the the remainder of the clear parts, begin the rigging, get the spotlights in, and paint the signal flags. I'm going to talk to Chris this evening and make sure I understand the rigging properly.” Here are some photos: Tim

Hi Guys, I just want to add a post-script here on Kyle's workmanship on my SAUCY and my Tupelov G-5. He delivered them this past Sunday. He did an excellent job on both kits! The SAUCY was from the new Revell 1:144 SNOWBERRY kit and was built, basically, OOB - having a few scratch-built things, which Kyle can address better, and he used a necklace which he got at a craft store as the anchor chain. Although I know NOTHING about the FLOWER Class Corvettes (other than for what my dear late friend, John "Sir John" Lambert told me and what I read in his books), I am - from the in progress shots from Kyle and from seeing the finished model up-close - impressed by the kit and by his craftsmanship! The Merit 1:35 Soviet Tupelov-built G-5 MTB was built totally OOB and, I'll tell ya Guys, Kyle did an unbelievably excellent job on it! That is a strong testament to his ability as a modeler and to the quality of the kit. Sunday, Kyle did say that the G-5 kit was a better engineered kit than the SNOWBERRY in terms of the fit. I am extremely PLEASED and IMPRESSED by both finished models. Tim

Dumb question but was "Hedgehog" installed on Saucy and if so when? Great build. Well done.

Hi There .

I found an old notebook , somewhat waterlogged and dried out .It has the parts list ( well part of it anyway ) for the " Tulagi Terror " .I can just make out the requirements for the build . I did definitely use a two wheeled field gun . Calibre unknown .

I can make out Lindberg on the boat and Italeri on some of the other parts .She was definitely a mish mash of scales and parts .

I cannot find or dig up photos . Gosh Tim , I wish I had enough to rebuild her . Just so you could see what she was . Before I knew they did such things to them .  T.B.         P.S  I do like the way Kyle has built these for you . You deserve the best . You have my interest piqued on the  1/144 - Flower Class ship now .
