1/250 Yamato Questions
Posted by Firecaptain on Saturday, September 13, 2008 10:32 AM

Are the Doyusha and Arii 1/250 Yamato the same kits, different box?

Any comments on either one would be appreciated.

Thanks

They are two completely different kits. From all accounts, the Arii kit is the better of the two (and apparently originally an Otaki tooling).

Google is your friend. Here's one of a bunch of hits I found for "Arii Doyusha 1/250 Yamato":

Hello,

I agree with J-Hulk that the ARII kit is the better one.
The Doyusha kit originally was issued by the japanese company "Nihon Hobby" or
"Hobby Japan" which means the same, in the 1960s. As this model was prepared
for motorizing and maybe radio control, many details where somewhat crude
or made thicker, not to be damaged to soon when someone played with the model.
The railings were molded on, the lower part being thicker than the upper part,
thats a technical solution to pop off the sprues easier from the moulding machine.
NICHIMO of Japan offered a 1:200 scale model of the Yamato, a model I have
dreamed of in my youth, but I dont know whether this one is better than
the ARII / OTAKI model.
