I volunteered to build a kit for a friend and although I just got it and see that I may have bitten off a bit more than I can chew (being a plastic builder until now) I'm going to move forward. The kit is the Panart 1/78 scale HMS Victory Bow Section.
My first question - of which there may be many - is regarding the finishing of the wood. I need to finish the interior decks and bulkheads, which will be visible after assembly, before I close it up. Right out of the box, does the wood in these kits need to be prepped before painting or varnishing? Should I be hitting it with a sanding sealer to avoid raising the grain of the wood or does the kind of wood they use make this step uneccessary?
Thanks in advance for any assistance
Pete
