another hobby store had Air Superiority blue, which is called forby the directions to be mixed with 5% black and 5% red for haze grey.

I picked up mr. color flat super clear coat as well.. do I just spray it on last or what? I usually use future to coat my models

Thanks for the heads up, I have to ask for shades close to each other... I am mildly colorblind which is why I only push pallets in the USAF

Sorry,  I got cross -eyed when I went across the table and gave you the citation for the Rodman.  Yes,  Emmons should be 22 as lost.

Tamiya's citation for Haze Gray from their Fletcher kit is XF-53,  Ocean Gray is XF-24, and Navy Blue is XF-17.

From the IPMS Stockholm color reference for XF-53  http://www.colorserver.net/showcolor.asp?fs=36173

To my eye it is too dark and not lavender enough.

You asked about XF-66.  Again from IPMS Stockholm http://www.colorserver.net/showcolor.asp?fs=36329

Again, to my eye it looks better, but perhaps a bit too dark

I think that my out of the bottle choice in Tamiya would be XF-19 http://www.colorserver.net/showcolor.asp?fs=36473

Doh, all the damn research I had pointed to measure 22.. time to hit the books again.

I know most of the DMS Fast Minesweepers converted from Gleaves/Benson DDs were measure 22 in the pictures I have found.

from the same site:

                                                                                                           1945-sinking

457 Emmons   MS 12 Mod MS 22 MS 22 MS 22 Sunk 4/45

(not trying to pissing match you, just a team effort to figure it out.. plus I love looking this stuff up)

how close is Tamiya light grey (xf-66) to hull grey? If I can alter the full bottle I have it'll probably save my thumbs. lol

You are building the DMS Emmons as lost correct?

According to the shipcamouflage.com database, in 1945 the Emmons was in Measure 21.  This is overall Navy Blue (5-N), it is not a gray.

Haze Gray,  Hull Gray, Light Gray, whatever you want to call it -- it would be wrong for the color  representation of the Emmons as lost.

The best color choice for accuracy would be WEM's Colourcoats in enamels or MM Acryl II marine paints in acrylics.  I know you don't have access to them - and you will need to go with Tamiya.  We'll work with that.

I'm at work and the info I need is at home.  If someone can jump in with the color mix that Tamiya cites in their 1:350 Fletcher instructions for Navy Blue (5-N) -- great. If not I'll post them when I get home tonight
