I'm going to reply even though I don't have a 1/200th kit.. but you'll see why.

"Best" depends on a lot of things. Some people just don't have the space or money for anything other than 700th. Heck, some people enjoy building fleets and might not want anything bigger than 1/1250. It's too subjective.

I'm a fan of 1/192 scale models, which was a standard museum scale that was also an architectural scale and an easy one to work with if you used the imperial (I.E. foot, inch) measuring system. I suppose now with the metric system 1/200th would be the better one to standardize on, but it's not going to stop me from building a good 1/192 model if its available.

A word on scales....

I have been working with a number of different ship models lately, mostley 1/350, and it seems to me that all things considered, 1/200 appears to be the best scale to work with for 20th century/modern ship kits.  I know this is an apparent contradiction of the most prevalent current scales (1/350, 1/144 and 1/72), but all things considered, it seems that 1/200 offers the best combination of detail, variety of ships that can be dealt with appropriately, to the best level for detail and the best level for 'functional' modelling (i.e., static display, RC, etc).  I would be very interested to hear what other modellers think about the subject (and before you comment, you need to have built at LEAST one 1/200 kit to be considered!).  So what do you think?
