Heller 1/50 Chebec
Posted by Cbax1234 on Saturday, April 4, 2009 11:47 AM

I'm working on Heller's 1/50 Chebec and have had a mishap with the mainmast.  I accidentally snapped it in half trying to straighten it.   Any suggestions on repairing it or maybe someone would have the parts that I could buy?  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Was it a fairly clean break? If so, might you be able to drill both sides of the break, and use steel pins (and glue) to rejoin the two ends?

Alternatively, how would a break have been repaired on the prototype, and what would those repairs have looked like?

It was a clean break, but the mast is hollow.  So, how should i do that?  Thanks.

The masts and the yards are hollow. I made a brass wire piece to strengthen the joint of the yards. Making a plug for the mast should be extremely simple and the easy way to repair a break one would venture to remark.....................

cheers,

Julian

I agree with Julian. The mast on the Chebec are hollow. Put a brass rod in for strenght. Glue the mast back together and use super glue to fill the crack . Sand it out repaint and you should be good to go. Let us see picture of your ship we love it.

Okay, all.  I'll try a brass rod and superglue.  Thanks!
