Help with Matchbox Flower Class Corvette
Posted by blueroy12 on Monday, August 10, 2009 3:56 PM

A friend now has my 20+ year old Matchbox release of their excellent 1/72 scale model of the Flower class corvette used by the Allies in WW2. I had bought it new in a hobby shop in the early 1980s and never got around to building it, but I had gone through the parts many times. There was a colorful accompanying booklet showing the different paint and detail schemes for the three nationality versions, and also some good history on the development of the class, but there were no assembly instructions - I assume they were omitted at the factory.   This didn't really bother me, even though the kit is listed as having over 1000 parts, because the large scale and pictures seemed enough guidance for anyone with a little experience in such kits. But I still feel somewhat bad about passing along a kit with no instructions, even though my friend assures me it's not a problem for him.

I'd be happy to pay the copying and mailing expenses for anyone who'd be willing to help. Or even an e-mail of a scan of the instructions would be appreciated. Never having seen the directions, I don't know how complete or helpful they were. Maybe they were just diagrams with no text, but in any case, if you can help, please let me know. Thanks.

It just so happens that this morning I have been checking through one of these kits in preparation for sale on eBay. There should indeed be assembly instructions in a separate, black and white book more or less the same size as the colour guide. Having a look through the instructions I would side with you on your impulse not to send the kit across without them, getting the details of the different configurations right would be tricky at the very least, and there's a precise rigging guide.

As soon as I get a chance I'll scan it all and send you a copy.

That would be great, Stevo. I happen to be one of those compulsive types who actually reads manuals/directions. Even though I was passing the kit on to someone else, doing so w/out instructions made me feel uneasy.

The kit was also re-released by Revell, another alternative is to obtain the Revell kit # and request the needed item(s) from Revell.

HTH......

One thing to note, though, about the current Revell issue, is that the instructions don't show the options and paint scheme for HMS Bluebell (even though the kit includes all the necessary parts)
