The 1/350 Pola buddy build Completed!
Posted by sfcmac on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 7:36 PM

What started as a simple OOB quick practice build between Sean(Summit) and I grew into quite a project! Before we knew it we had gotten a little carried away exchanging ideas and homemade items to improve this old kit which attracted us with a price tag of under $20 for a large model ship.

Our adventurous build thread  is here.

/forums/1192997/ShowPost.aspx

The hard way was an understatement but we both truely got a whole bunch of enjoyment and $'s worth out of the build.  I would like to personally thank everyone who to the time to look , comment, help, and encourage us along!  You fellows in the forum are great! Bow [bow]

So  I suppose it is time to show some  completed pics and let them do the talking.

This is Sean's 1/350 Hobby Boss Pola!!!

An incredible effort with a phenominal result!  If you are familiar with this kit you know what I mean!  Sean, you must indeed be proud of this result!  Bow [bow]Thumbs Up [tup]

I myself decided to try and convert the kit into her Sister ship the Gorizia.

The History of both ships are on the build thread as well.

It has been indeed a most enjoyable build and a great time. Thanks everyone! Bow [bow]

Very nicely done on both ships! I will have to go review your thread on the Pola when I get around to building mine.

Aaron - The Goriza was a hard act to follow. Your knowledge of ships surpasses mine (what kind of Navy Brat am I Disapprove [V] ) Thank You for all the Help and Great / Crazy Ideas...  What a fun OOB build ..Laugh [(-D]  I can honestly say this is the first ship model I have completed since I was 14 or so. This also has been one of the best times I have had in a long time on a build . Thumbs Up [tup] So when is the next ship buddy build ?  Speaking of , have you seen the New Academy Graf Spee Whistling [:-^]

Thanks to all who visited the build and took the time to comment Captain [4:-)]

Once again, you guys prove there is no end to your talents, ingenuity, and goodnaturedness (is that a word?).   Scratchbuilding parts, PE figures, hand painted AC, real anchor chain and so on- INCREDIBLE STUFF!  Awe-inspiring work fellas. Bow [bow]

Stickpusher - I would really like to see yours get built up. It is a basic kit, the idea was to build it up quick and then move on to other builds. Aaron has the "Mogami" and I have the Trump BB-55 which I want to build as BB-56.. Well we got pretty involved in this OOB build Laugh [(-D]

Roy -  You should get one and give it a go, Once you get all the ejector marks cleaned uo it's a breeze to assemble !

Frank - Your way to kind with your comments Smile [:)] , so how long before we see your CV grace these pages.

jmart - Wow, I have not seen you on the forum for awhile, either that or I just missed your postings. Thanks for Looking in and the comments. Thumbs Up [tup]

Dave - Ha, we had to force ourselves to stop adding on . Otherwise we would still be building away. So many ideas we had..  How about that Snowberry ? How long before some more progress on it ?

M60 - Thank You ! The kits are a lot of plastic for the buck. They are over 20" long and the price was under $18.00 Thumbs Up [tup] ps - It is almost time for the Salmon to start spawning up here...Cowboy [C):-)] Mischief [:-,]

At my current build pace, about two years before I get started!  Gotta finish the Corsair, 262, Abrams, Sherman, F-16, M978, Buchanan...

Sigh [sigh]

Arrrrggghhh!! Wish I could make it. I still want to get to Summit's Shack one of these days..Sigh [sigh]

Hope you have the best season/s ever, friend!

Dear Aaron, Your ships are oozing quality and I am so glad that I could follow your experience to build my own Pola now. The only question I did not find in your descriptions was where you got the anchor chain for your ships. Could you advise me where i can get it , please. Regards, Constantin.

A couple of gems.

Was the deck painted on Pola or decal? I assume painted and a lovely job at that.

Aaron and Sean both migrated to other forums after the latest FSM Forum change. The stripes on Pola (Sean ) were painted by hand. I do not know where Aaron (Gorizia) got his anchor chains, but a good source is:
