Photoetched rails-Help!

Although I've never tried it, I've seen a number of articles where the guy used plain old white glue. It holds long enough for you to get the rails aligned properly and then you can follow up with spots of CA for holging power.

I go along with Ed use Elmers white glue to position the rail in it's final place & later go back and secure it with CA. I also reccommend Loren Perry's book on photo etching

I've been using regulat old Testor's plastic glue. I've done 4 ships with it and as I don't handle them after they've been built, have had success with getting them on and staying on.

hey janus , know what i use ? ALEENS white craft glue . it  sets moderately slow but it seems to do ok for photoetch stuff . i do use the maxi line of cyano glues and the best one seems to be their medium thick formula . it just sets up slower . and i get exactly the same stuff because its always available at my lhs        tankerbuilder

Shouldn't be a problem with sufficient dry fitting. Get the PE railings shaped before gluing them.

Even the fastest CA has a few seconds to work with. A tiny drop on the end posts and you should be able to set the entire railing in place. Then add a little bit where there's room between the posts and deck.

They also make slower CA glue, so if you want more time, as for a slower glue next time you're in the hobby shop- the fast stuff is a little too fast for me, so I understand what you're talking about. I think some of mine you have to compress the parts for near 10 seconds, others as have been said only take one or two.

However I'd give the craft glue a try, CA glue's always been a PITA for me to get used to, any chance I don't need to use it and I wont.

This is the second post I've seen in the past 24 hours to get a bump after several years, though that one was only 3 years, not 6.  Yeah, I hope he hasn't been waiting all this time.  Or maybe he found some really slow-acting glue....
